Description

I’ve amassed my vintage system, including a couple contemporary components, over the past 5 years. It’s been a labor of love in that I’ve scoured the internet for estate sales, CL listings, eBay, and garage sales to find these wonderful components. I’m fortunate to have found them when I did because the current price for these components are now easily two to three times more costly than what I purchased them for. I grew up with these components because my Uncle was an enthusiast and we listened to music through his hifi system. It was great fun! There’s a bit of nostalgia in the designs and the build quality that today’s components lack IMHO. Thank you for letting me share and thanks to Audiogon!

Beautiful and well assembled "classic" system. Reminds me of when owning a hifi system was all about the music.

@cymbop Thank you!

Owner
@jond Thanks for the compliment! I have been very specific about choosing the components within the system. And, the beauty of this passion is that it's constantly evolving.

@taxtrumpet Not yet, but it's about finding the time. I've read and heard good things about the updgrades

@jay73 The acoustics in the room are fantastic! the brick wall and the 20' ceilings made of cedar contribute to wonderful sonics in that space. Thanks for the compliments!

@puffball08 Agreed! I've heard great things about the crossover upgrade options. Definitely on my to do list. Thanks for sharing your experience on your upgrade!

@jgotis Kindred spirits. Love that era, sound, and build quality of those 70's components

@roget2015 Many thanks!

@sj00884 I love the Pioneer components of the same era as the Marantz. I just happened to love the history of Marantz, the build quality, and sound of Marantz.

@shosta5 I believe the entertainment cabinet is a West Elm mid-century modern piece

@puffball08 I have yet to explore the crossover updates, but it is weighing heavily on my mind to do so. I've found some great info on Audiokarma and J B Lansing Heritage sites. The crossover upgrades typically come in a kit, or as a plug-n-play with little soldering. It just depends on your skill level and time to put toward it.

@adc335 Thank you for the compliments. The album is Body Talk by Robyn, a favorite of my Wife ;)

Wonderful system! Say what is that album you display in the first picture?

adc335

To @puffball08 :  Did you do the cross over upgrade yourself, or did you use a repair shop?  I am interested in upgrading the corssovers for my speakers, but it looks like a bigger job than I should tackle.

taxtrumpet

I love the cabinet.  What's the brand/model of that cabinet?

shosta5

Very similar system back in the day, swapping out the Marantz with a Pioneer.  JBL, and Technics.  The golden age of hifi IMO

sj00884

Bravo!

roget2015

Fantastic System!
A Marantz system with JBL Centuries was also the first true Hi-Fi system that I’d ever listened to, and it changed my approach forever, so I understand the nostalgia factor!!
Enjoy!!!

jgotis

Very nice system, beautiful room.  Agree with @taxtrumpet, replacing the 50¢ NP electrolytics JBL used in their crossovers with better quality film capacitors will add much to your listening pleasure.  Did it with my 4412As.  Night & day difference.

puffball08

That space looks so awesome!

jay73

Have you upgraded the crossovers in your JBL L100 speakers?

taxtrumpet

Absolutely gorgeous room! And very cool mix of retro and modern components those JBL's look badass!

jond

What a thoughtful mix of old and new!  I love it.  You have created a lovely thing.

cymbop

Very nice!
