Description

2.13.23

All streaming nowadays using Qobuz. Listening room is good but not going to get amazing as that's the house and state of our union.  I have more of a monitor set up with speaker placement. The sweet spot is just that. A Telegartner M12 Gold Switch has added a profound sound enhancement.

I had a PrimaLuna HP but sold that and got a Rogers High Fidelity KWM-88 Integrated Amplifier. I had that modified for using KT-170’s. What an AMP!  Got a spare set of KT-170’s before Russia invaded Ukraine.

I found a Lumin AMP on Audiogone and paired that with the Lumin X1 steamer and that sounds better than the tubes!  I’ll hang on to the Rogers and use in an upcoming system starting to percolate.

The LuminX1 and Lumin AMP have excellent synergy. Leedh Processing simply sounds better and that's the way these puppies work.

Added Hijiri Power cable. Woozier

Separate very good power supplies for Streamer, Roon Nucleus, M12 Gold Switch. Also use Entreq Macro Ground Boxes .

Have two Roon end points. The one in the listing room (nee den) is the Lumin X1 and the one for the whole stereo is plain crackers.

Power and ethernet very cleaned up. No tin foil on ceiling. Yet.

Wire shelfs are not the best and someday will build wood ones. Aside from speakers no gear in room per order of you know who. Yes dear.

Components Toggle details

    • Lumin AMP
Great synergy with the Lumin X1. Great

    • Lumin X1
This is ALL I use now to listen to music. I converted CD's to flac flies and sold the CD player.  The sound is for me akin to a very very high end vinyl system (that would cost more than my entire system). The onboard DAC in the Lumin X1 passed into the tube amp doesn't sound "digital".
    • Sonus Faber Guarneri Evolution Loudspeakers
Guarneri Evolution loudspeakers on Sonus Faber stands
    • Telegartner M12 SWITCH GOLD

Their web site says "A complete network solution for Extreme Audiophiles." I'd say this thing is remarkable. Seriously.

    • AudioQuest Niagara 7000
Had the furman power conditioner, IT-ref 15L but it seemed to flatten out the sound when compared to plugging AMP to wall. Yes it was an earlier excellent Garth Powell design but the Niagara keeps out of the way. The new 3000 would be what I would get now.
Entire system (except sub) powers on/off with the 7000 and that's one of those little simple pure joy things.
    • Cardas Audio Clear Beyond
Clear Beyond XLR's between Lumin AMP and Lumin X1. They are excellent.
    • Morrow Audio Anniversary Interconnect
Clean neutral sound. Taken out for the Cardas. Will use in another system that will make use of XLR/dual mono
    • Zenwave Audio DPS-4 Power Cable
    • B&W (Bowers & Wilkins) DB4S Subwoofer
    Just a smidge
    • Morrow Audio SP7 Speaker Cable
    • Apple iPad
Needed for running the Lumin T2 and Qobuz.
    • Furutech GTX-D NCF(R) Ultimate Nano-Crystal Rhodium-Plated AC Duplex Receptacle
For me It starts at the wall and if I could retrofit dedicated lines I'd do that too.

    w/
    • PS Audio 2 of PS Audio - Noise Harvester (Black)
Look at them go especially when the lights with dinners are on in the next room
    • AudioQuest AC power cable
    Assorted cables...mid range
    • ZMF Headphones Blackwood
For me the ZMF Blackwoods do it.
    • Roon Labs Nucleus
Not shown.. It's a black ribbed box.
    • Audio Sensibility Signature <Lumin X1> Silver DC Cable
    From power supply to X1
    • Audio Sensibility Various other connects and power cables
    They make excellent stuff.
    • Orchard Audio PecanPi® Streamer Rev 3.0
No frills for a whole house stereo.
    • UpTone Audio JS-2 Linear Power Supply
Used for the Roon Nucleus with an Uptone Audio SAPPHIRE Silver-Plated, Star-Quad DC Cable.
    • JCat Optimo 3 Duo Power Supply
W/ the DC1 cable connector type for the M12 Gold
    • Entreq Macro Ground Boxes
For Lumin X1 PSU and the JCat M12 Gold Switch. Ground 'em Danno.
    • Hijiri Nagomi
    Into streamer
    • Hijuri Maestro Power Cable
    Into AMP....WOW!

@rman9 Thank you. The weak link is the room and that's not going to get better. Someday I hope to build a small acoustically correct and treated room.

@jonwolfpell  Yes. I know. Also I should update photos and system info. Amp is on heavy butcher block. Have told spouse over and over I want them in room and not in closet. You can guess the rest.

Very nice system! In my experience, those "metro" type wire shelf units can really effect the clarity of sound negatively. You might trying to just put the beautiful amp on the floor or some other more solid platform.

Great looking system, it must sound awesome. How do you like the Morrow Audio SP7 speaker cables? I bought a pair of the SP7's within the last year and I am very happy with them. Before I purchased them I compared them with Transparent and Nordost cables in the same price range and the Morrow's sounded considerably better than either the Transparent or the Nordost.

Hi,  Check your tubes in your transport.  There should be a 12AX7's in the center positions and 12AU7's on the sides.  I have one.  Incredible analog like sound!  You have a great system.

joel_hifi  Yes I've heard other streamers and what was notable to me were the Mytek Brooklyn Bridge and the PS Audio DirectSteam DAC(great)....I have heard others too but those two were on noteworthy systems.  I think it would be hard to go wrong with any of the better steamers but I chose one with a built in DAC rather than a stand alone DAC as I knew for me it would be steaming and nothing else. What did it for me was listing to "Kind of Blue" on a record and then on a steamer. I very(!) much like the Lumin T2 and feel no need to change. Laszlo Gardony is on as I type this.....Happy

I got the Lumin because "Uncle Kevin" & Co. extolled it as well as many many others.  The easy L1 integration was a big factor too.

When the Guarneri's went on sale I got them. Given the room I wanted/needed speakers to clear furniture.

Very nice. I would love to see a few more photos showing the rest of your system including the tube amplification and cdp.

Congrats, very nice system!
I'm driving Harbeth 30.1 speakers with my PrimaLuna Dialogue Two integrated amp and found it to be a pretty good synergy, but been considering the Guarneri's for some time...
How do you like the Lumin T2 and how does the L1 integrate? Have you had a chance to compare to other streamers/servers/DACs?
