Description

Roon Nucleus, EMM Labs NS-1 network server, EMM Labs DAC,  Krell amplification, Wilson Audio speakers, Velodyne Subwoofers, Torus power conditioning, Rives Audio acoustic treatments room design, DIY acoustic treatments. FoilFlex Balance and speaker cables. Krell CAST cable.
Update 2024: Added two x 13mm Knauf Soundstop acoustic plasterboard with Gleenglue between layers over standard 10mm plasterboard.  All plasterboard edges and holes sealed with heaps of HB Fuller Firesound acoustic sealant, concise and skirting board redone and final re-painting.  Lighting and power outlets changed to surface mounted with all cables penetrations sealed with acoustic sealant. Well worth the effort to remove wall and downlight vibrations, lower the noise floor, increased 3D imaging and soundstage, improved detail and texture, and overall sound improvements at all frequencies.

Hi kr8008,  Thanks for the comments.  The Krell’s are a real power house considering they are the babies of the EVO mono block range.  High sensitivity of the Wilson Speakers makes their life a bit easier too.  Cheers.

Amazing system! Those Krells play well above their list price. Giant killers really. Happy listening!!

EMM Labs NS1 Network Server added.  Connected by EMM Labs OptilInk proprietary fibre optic link. Music severed over NAS on Ethernet.  No contest.  Beats my old Audirvāna/MacMini on all fronts.  If you have an EMM Labs DAC, I strongly encourage you to give the NS1 a go.

Hi Emailists,  No I have only used the Subs via XLR cables.  Due to the high output voltage available on the Krell Preamp, I had to use attenuators otherwise the gain is too high.  The Sub matching volume is driven down to only 6-8 without attenuators but works around 30 with them.  The attenuators allow the subs to operate over a greater volume range.  This high gain issue does not occur with the other inputs (eg unbalanced) and has been documented in a previous Velodyne DD+ review.

Auto-EQ works up to 60hz on the left channel and 70hz on the right channel in my room.  This is due to equalisation of room modes with the subs mainly reducing peaks and only adding boost around 20hz.

Thanks for your comments.

Have you ever tried running the DD12+ via high level input?  I run a pair of DD10+ and thought I liked the match better when powering by speaker cable from amp terminals.  I do have to keep the speaker level gain low - about 20 percent from lowest setting to get clean bass.  The Velodyn coming in at 40 Hz (actually lower using am eq curve really helps flesh out my TAD's and allow the bottom end to blossom.

Enjoyed seeing pics of your system.

Velodyne DD12+ subwoofers recently added.  Great addition as a final touch to the overall sound experience on top of the room acoustic treatments and speaker positioning.

I use to ride Ducati’s.  There is one included in the photo between the speakers but checking again would be hard to make out.  Road riding is what I do now.  But with COVID an indoor trainer with Rouvy has become the one way to ride places all over the world.

@aussienut I noticed the TdF hat and shaved legs....  ;-)

Road cycling is my world.

Hi Cymbop,  thanks.  Yes it’s turnout to be a very relaxing place to sit, read, listen and unwind. Bike rides are now by cycling only but it’s great exercise.

Aussie, I love all the attention you gave to your room build-out.  The best gear in the world won't sound right in a bad room.  Looks like quite the haven to unwind after a bike ride!

Hi Joni,  thanks for the comments.  It’s now a room where I spend many hours listening to music.  I was also very happy with the final result after many weekends and nights building and fitting out the room with the acoustic treatments.  Happy New Year to you too.  Thanks.

Damn that looks like a great room and a fun immersive listen! Cheers and happy new year!
