Wow,

That is an awesome system.
Which item-component made the most difference over the evolvement of the system?

It must sound very detailed & smooth with your components.

Keep up the good work

Jeff

Hi Kusina. Awesome system! I am curious to get your thoughts on the Vitus pre versus the Ayre that you moved to. Cheers.

bigamp

Great system! I hope to listen to the Ayre K-XR and YG Acoustics one day. I heard great things about them.

Thanks Bvdiman. I followed your instructions and they worked! Regards, Kusina

Hi Kusina,
-Go to the new format sign-in/sign-up page.
-After signing-in, click on your tiny name/moniker at top right hand corner.
-This should bring you to the Edit Account page, and in column to the left, under Tool/Community--click on 'Virtual System'.
-From there on, its business as usual.. ;) Good luck!

Great system btw.. Enjoy!

Does anyone know how to edit one's system on the new, disimproved Audiogon?

kusina

Excellent choice!

After much auditioning of preamplifiers, I selected an Ayre K-XR.

Khrys, I didn't try any Audience cables. But I did try Kimber, Synergistic Research (very hard to connect in a narrow space), and another one recommended by the Cable Company representative. I have also bought some Argento PCs (one new Flow and a used Level 1, but not their top Flow Reference Master), which are very good. I have been busy with other things, but hope to experiment with cables later this spring. By the way, I have posted some new pictures today.

Kusina, which other PCs did you try? I have recently become enamored with Audience Au24 PCs. Very refined yet dynamic. And surely the most flexible I've ever seen. I will certainly try some Shunyatas based on your experience. Incidently, I ended up trying, and ultimately buying a set of KS 1136 ICs to connect preamplifier and amp, based on your recommendation. Thanks, BTW.

Khrys, Yes, the system now sounds elegant. The Soulution amp adds a clarity and tonal purity that, in my experience, are decidedly remarkable. I did try the Palladian PCs along with several other power cords on loan from The Cable Company. The connection that concerned me at the time was between my Vitus preamp (the SL-101) and the wall (that was before I tried and bought the Soulution 710 amp). Of the PCs that I tried, I preferred (and bought) the new Shunyata Python CX, not only for the sound but also for the ease of connecting it in a tight space).

kusina

Kusina, I finally found your system. I'd love to hear how the YGs sound with Vitus and Solution electronics. Elegant, I'm sure. Did you ever try the PK 10 Palladian PCs? Very interesting art on the wall.

Ack, I have only had the Soulution for a couple of days, so I can't give a detailed comparison as yet. Basically, though, the Soulution intensifies or improves on most of the excellent qualities of the Burmester. The Burmester is an excellent amp, one of the best that I have heard. But although it is very clear sounding, it is exceeded in clarity by the Soulution. The Soulution is remarkably noiseless, even when cranked up.

kusina

How would you compare this amp to the Burmester, and the overall system as it performs now?

To Cappuccino: The Vitus SL101 and the Burmester 911Mk3 do well together. The Burmester has a very low input impedance, and it probably does best with a Burmester preamp. But the Vitus has a relatively low output impedance, so the two components are not mismatched. And the Vitus, in any case, is a superb preamp.

To Cmo: The Reimyo CDP777 remains one of the most musical CD players available, with a lovely and convincing midrange. Some attribute its excellence to the K2 chip, others to the JVC built transport. The Meridian 808.2 is superior in my system in two ways. First, it has a better soundstage in the horizontal dimension (the Reimyo holds its own insofar as depth is concerned). Second, its apodising filter contributes to its sounding less "electronic," and to making poorly recorded CDs sound much better.

kusina

Hello Kusina,

Very nice looking system. I wonder if you could describe the differences you have found between the Remyo and your new Meridian CD players?

Thanks

Chris

Very nice system you´ve put together.
How do you like your new preamp, the Vitus SL-101?
Do you find it to be a good combo with you Burmester amp?

Cappuccino

Geez, Kusina,

No kidding! I'm sorry to hear that :-( That's one of the things I hold dear about the BAT gear...it's been utterly reliable. You're right about really good electronics, i.e. solid state, being the genesis of a satisfying experience...the YG Acoustics/FM Acoustics room impressed us at RMAF '09.

Best,
Sam

Sam, Yes, I originally had a (sonically) very fine integrated tube amp. One of the output tubes flamed, welded itself to the socket, and took resistors in the crossover to one of the tweeters down with it. I've switched to solid state. Less hassel. And with really good electronics and cables (I'm still experimenting), solid state can be very satisfying.

kusina

Hi Kusina,

Have you ever tried tubes with your YG's? Nice system!

Sam

System edit: I have replaced the Krell preamp with a Vitus SL-101.

Owner
Igal, thanks for your suggestion. But as I noted in an earlier post, I've acquired a Meridian 808.2. It represents a new technology (the apodising filter), and constructs a remarkable soundstage. Kusina

kusina

Try the Ayon Reference CD-5 is the best player in the market.

Goodluck
