I also own a pair of Guarneri Memento. In my main system, Guarneri sounds absolutely superb. All the typical audiophile adjectives can be applied and better yet they convey music like nothing else. But moving my Guarneri to a less system and all of sudden it sounds average at best. So mating Guarneri with Dartzeel is not an overkill, Guarneri demands the best front end and performance will continue to improve with every upgrade in the front end.

If you can afford to pull Guarneri far away from the rear wall, they will reward you with huge soundstage and imaging.

I have heard both Strad and Savoy in a small room, Savoy does have more bass definition and either speaker should go to a very large room. You can try stuffing the rear port of Strad to reduce bass output, eliminate rear wall interaction, and improve bass definition.

Hi Hugo,
another DCS guy here. Did you try the paganini clock too? I found it was the Scarlatti clock that worked the magic even though the rest of the Scarlatti stack is staggering.

chadeffect

Can you please comment a bit more on Paganini system. Have you also bought the clock and use 3 units together? I am also considering either Paganini or Scarlatti trio. Have you had a chance to compare both combos or Puccuni cd player against Paganini system?

Dave, no unfortunately I have only recently purchased the Dartzeel and I think it is the best thing that has happened to me. Only thing though they do clip if you have bigger speakers, I tried Savoys and could not drive em, Strads no sweat, they have in my opinion the best of Nagra sweetness, Pass Mid , Goldmund Speed and Krell Bass with more detail. You should try em on your eights I really am curious. I drove my Wilsons 7 with Krell FPB 650Mc with ML32 and the older DCS stack. I had a chance to compare them to the B&W 800 and that is when I traded them in. The B&W just sounded more to me. But that is just an opinion. I heard that the 8s is very different from the 7s. I am now thinking of ordering Lumen White Whitelight D 3.0SE with the 3cm Diamond

I have owned the older dCS stack (Elgar/Verdi LaScala) for about 7 years now, of course a couple of upgrade during that time from Elgar to Elgar + etc. The Paganini I have had for three days now, wow the amount of info that is VIVID is ..I mean that sticks out and imaging is outragous. The transport sseems much more solid and it is pretty loud when moving , the solenoid just seems so sturdy. For my taste I love it. I heard the Scalatti at the dealer for couple of hours directly connected to Boulder Monos with Andrea IIs and it sounded nice but just a bit of harshness, I experienced with older stack as well, I believe you do need the preamp in between. I will update you more on Paganini as I hear more , the first impression if a must have !

hugos7

WOW...incredible array of equipment you have collected. Have heard so many good things about the Dartzeel, did you have this when you had the 7's?

883dave

How does the Paganini compare to your older dCS stack (Elgar/Verdi LaScala)?

Any recommendation on a cd player, I plan on upgrading my marantz Sa8260 To either Esoteric SA60, PLinius cd 101, Cary 303/300 or maybe even the Wadia player, not New of course, I been trying to built my system over time, by upgrading pieces after pieces, I’m looking to sound, details, mid, bass, you know the WOW thing, so suggestions are welcome

Why bother? You have all this wonderful equipment, yet nothing done in the way of a listening room. Sorry if I'm being rude, but it looks like the system is meant more to impress people by the amount of equipment than anything else. Just my opinion...

henry_chinaski

Great system Hugos, absolutely amazing. Think with even half of your equipment I would be extremely happy.

Heard a lot of good stuff about the Dartzeel. Have you already straight the Dartzeel with your Stradivari, think that should sounds great.

Another question, have you ever tried EMM-Labs and Wadia (with or without GNSC mod) in your system and appreciate your view on their sound compared to your DCS equipment.

I own the Mark Levinson 33H and Nr32. As ML is not as warm sounding as Pass do you believe that the Stradivari might be a better match than the Eggleston? I listening to all sorts of music not only classical. If I buy the Savoy's I want to use the ML 432 on the lows and 33H on mids/high.

Thanks

Max

System edited: Guys ...isn't Dartzeel sweet with Momentos'

hugos7

Thank's Hugos. BTW, great system. You don't have both speakers in the same room do you? That will cause some issues, especially in such a high end system.

I just ordered a pair of Strad's, so can't wait. Suits my taste's of slightly warm sounding components and will match better with my tube amps.

cheers Shane

Sorry for late reply,
Bass is one of the reason I kept my Savoys, for one the Strads had a booming effect when playing non classical genre, just could not keep up, but also remember I am Playing with the XA 200 s' and that amp could be overwhelming for the strads.
I just moved the system to a much larger listening room so I don't think it is a room tuning thing, The Savoys just played the tight bass in a subtle way where you do not notice that it is playing the bass but there is enough bass too the lowest note where you almost cry. The Bass just is much more detailed with the Savoys and it plays down to a much lower frequency. Now the question is when playing the Cello one of my benchmark instrument, Yoyo Ma's Enrio Morricone SACD. The Strads over all balance is extremely musical and just moving while Savoy geeting extremely close but just a tad of being mechanical.
Going to the piano ...Savoy is more Pure ...

Overall I need them both and I am looking to replace something that could cover both these speakers in one unit. I heard the Avalon ISIS and not bad...for now I give
9.7/10 for Savoy and 9/10 for the Stards especially if you play a wide selection of music. But if you love just String Sonatas or even concertos ...strads..

hugos7

Hi Hugos

Could you give me your impressions between the Stradivari's and Savoy's.

Do the Strad's have as much bass impact and depth as the savoy's?.

downunder

There really isnt much that I can add that has not been said. Simply stunning and simply amazing. I would almost kill to hear your system and its finest.

Yepseeooh Hugo7:-))

It is a very impressive system, indeed.

Frankly, your system costs just as much as the annual salary of the senior tax lawyer at my firm and her school loan combined thus it is understandable that you have been sleepless in Seoul for hours of musical bliss:-))

My $ 0.02, you have reminded me of one of my firm's top notch clients who bought a yatch that costs him $100 million in April. And the guy lives in New Mexico:-)) The sheer size of money involved is just unbelievable to me.

I admire that you are living in Seoul and are still into cars and watches instead of all the beautiful women there:-))

My next door neighbor is a Korean who works for Hyundai in Cerritos, Calif's told me a few things about Seoul since his family lives there too. He took me to several Korean restaurants in the area and we had a great time. He has to go back to Korea next year and I will not have someone who can take me to great Korean restaurants...too bad, I really like having him for company at Korean restaurants.

At any rate, appreciation for music is a healthy hobby:-)) so more power to you Hugo man:-)) Right on....:-))

hieule5

wow very impressive! the choice of components looks like they would all work great together.

you are right though, you do you need more space but dont we all? ahha

nice system

dc51985

Hello, once again.

I had the opportunity to listen to the Savoy's in 5.1 configuration in a mastering studio. Tonally I still gravitate to the Strads and agree with your comments regarding string instrument reproduction. Savoy's do a good job however but not as beautifully as the Strads.

In the all too imperfect world, curious to know, what is your impression of the Strad versus Savoy soundstaging?

Consequentially I am still looking .

Regards HSA

Impressive stack of components Hugos7, what about a IWC Tour de l'Ile to match the quality of your system?

fisick

Hi,

Wonderful system!!!

Have you ever had a counselling session with a pschycologist regarding your VERY expensive taste on audio, watch or car? You may want to see one....But if all of these make you happy, go for it and spend more to make the economy going!!!!!
