McIntosh MSD4 Analog and Digital
Preamp, Processor, and DAC
Sold
from:1998
Last
retail price: $3250.00
Signal
to noise ratio all outputs:>100dB
A weighted
This unit is a little known gem as it
is usually mistaken for a 5.1 surround processor only.
First, you can use this unit as an analog stereo preamp. I used it this way with an external DAC connected to a computer file server. It has one analog input which
could be expanded by the addition of a switch box. It is similar to
the other slim line McIntosh preamps in profile (C712 or C15) and is
very quiet with a signal to noise ratio of more than 100db A
weighted.
If you wish to use the internal DAC
which decodes PCM up to 48khz and is surprisingly good even today,it
has 4 optical and 4 coaxial inputs.
Lastly, you can use it as a 5.1 surround decoder.
A few bulbs are burnt out on the left
side so I am including some replacement bulbs.
