12AWG Belden - SonarQuest shielded power cord designed for sources or preamps - tip-to-tip copper using only genuine brand name parts.

Made of 12 gauge high quality Belden copper power cable. This cable is designed the same way as my popular 10AWG cable, except it's a 12 gauge and it's shielded. Perfect for sources or preamps if you have EMI/RFI interference.

The Sonarquest aluminium series is a beautiful looking plug set. Sonarquest's website pictures don't really convey how great these connectors look. The aluminium casing is thick and very solid looking. Built from a 40MM Solid Aluminum rod, the Alloy Series plugs don't only look good, they block all EMI/RFI. If you're going for the shielded Belden, makes sense to go for shielding power plugs too.

Only brand name parts used. Unfortunately, there are fake-copper items in the custom cable business. Brand names provides the reassurance that you are indeed dealing with the advertised metals.

I set out to build a good looking, fairly priced, very solidly built cable made exclusively with quality parts from reliable manufacturers:
- The base cable is made in the USA Belden, one of the most, if not the most reputable cabling company in the world.
-The spades are genuine Panduit (USA).
-The connectors are genuine SonarQuest, made of real copper.
- I use only tight weave cable jacket. SEE PICS FOR ALL AVAILABLE JACKET COLORS.

More on parts:

BASE CABLE

Belden Machflex 12AWG stranded (65x30) bare copper conductors with tinned copper braid shield. As the model's name implies, this is a VERY flexible cable. Made in the USA. Belden is probably the most reputable name in industrial cabling, including power cables.

CONNECTORS

Although not quite known as Wattgate or Furutech, Sonarquest uses superior materials than their more popular counterparts. Contrary to most AC plugs, these use ONLY copper for the ultimate in conductivity. You can spend over 100$ for a Furutech AC connector set and not even have 100% copper (the IEC is brass). You typically get pure copper in 200$+ sets.

Unfortunately, some custom cable builders use generic stuff you could find on Ebay or Ali because of the cost effectiveness. In my experience, these type of generic brands are very rarely made from copper, or even brass, as they claim to be. They're often made from cheap alloys (pot metal) that contain only trace amounts of copper. Worse yet, many of them even contain iron, which creates magnetic fields that will interfere with all your cables and components.

I use genuine SonarQuest non-plated red copper plugs. I prefer no plating because gold, or even silver plating often includes a nickel to harden the metal and add to its brightness. I prefer a pure copper approach. Nickel is a harder metal but is much less conductive than copper.

Sonarquest uses cryogenic -196 degrees treatment increase the density of metal, hardness and impact toughness. Use of concave and convex security design insure perfect contact that can withstand the pull of 8KG. Sonarquest are the real deal and the absolute best bargain in power connectors.

CONSTRUCTION QUALITY

Very solidly built. Each pole is terminated with high quality, thick Panduit brand 12-10 awg copper fork spades to insure very solid grip. Not only is every single strand held solidly in place but, as seen in picture #5, the contact area of the fork and the plug are perfectly flush (pic ). This much contact area is almost impossible when screwing down the wire directly. The thicker the cable the more difficult to use all the strands. With this design the entire gauge of the 12 awg wire is utilized.

I use only tight weave cable jacket, which has a better look and feel. They are also much more resistant to nicks and tears. See pic #7 for tight weave vs regular.

I designed this cable specifically for people dealing with EMI/RFI problems that can particularly affect digital sources. Although this cable could be used for amps, I recommend my 10AWG unshielded cable for amplification. Shielding, unfortunately, slightly diminishes an amplifier's dynamics due to the increased capacitance. Any shielding will negatively affect a cable's capacitance. This problematic is limited to amplifiers. The choice to go shielded or not for your preamp and sources depends the amount of interference your equipment is exposed to.
