A pair of clean Dynaudio C4 Confidence floor speakers- Gorgeous design and superb sound. Denmark is noted prolific designers of high quality speaker drivers and speaker manufacturing experience. Dynaudio builds their own enclosures.
The C4 consists of a very slim and tall enclosure with a wider curved- rather organic- front baffle that houses the speakers six drivers. A wider and nicely curved plinth/base assures stability of the tall and slim enclosure.
The driver array consists of a 203mm (8 inch) bass driver at the top below which is a 152mm (6 inch) midrange driver, below which are two, yes two 25mm (1 inch) tweeters (the top line Esoatar2 models mounted vertically), below which is yet another 152 mm midrange and lastly, right at the bottom of the array, yet another 203mm bass driver.
The Driver arrangement- in conjuction with elements of the crossover design and the beautifully sculptured is said to provide multivarious benefits in dispersion and radiation patterns (mainly vertically), such that unwanted sound energy from floor and ceiling reflections is minimized by up to 75% (Dynaudio refers to this as either "Dynaudio Directivity Control" or "DDC" in its print and online literature).
The slim enclosure is twin ported , one each for the bass drivers, with these ports on the rear, at the top and bottom of the enclosure.
Being such a prominent driver manufacturer means that Dynaudio was able to use some of its most advanced driver designs in the C4. The tweeters are the highly-regarded and high power handling Esotar2 units with coated cloth domes, aluminium voice coils and neodymium magnet motors. The cone drivers use the company’s trademarked ‘MPC’ (Magnesium Polymer Cone) diaphragms, which have perforated dust caps to help ventilate the over-sized low-mass voice coils and massive magnet structures.
Typical of Dynaudio, the crossover is a first-order design with gentle 6dB roll-offs. Frequency response is quoted as being 27Hz to 25kHz –3dB, impedance at 4 and sensitivity at 88dBSPL at 2.83V/1m. The C4’s deceptively large enclosure measures 1750×250×445mm (HWD), but it’s actually 420mm wide at the base—it’s only the main cabinet that is 250mm wide. Each speaker weighs 55kg. The beautiful tall and slim enclosure is superbly finished—as is the front baffle
