You are looking at one fantastic preamplifier! Thoress refers to this model as a full-function preamplifier as it is not only an excellent line stage but it contains a phono stage that competes with other stand-alone world-class phono stages. All three phono inputs on this specific preamp are set at the factory standard 100 ohms. A thorough description of the line and phono stages is found in the manual available on the Thoress website.

I am the second owner of this preamplifier and purchased it from Gideon Schwartz at Art Audio in New York in 2013 when a client of his traded it in to downsize to an integrated amplifier. The only reason that I am selling it is that I got a little carried away setting up an analog system and rarely use it. Kids, work and other hobbies always seem to get in the way!

I sold my amplifier this week and since I no longer have a usable system, I would like to sell the rest of my gear soon. Accordingly, I have dropped my price by $900 in order to move it. At, $3,995 you would own an AMAZING preamplifier for 42% of the current MSRP.

NOTE: I did have one issue with the first phono input, P1. Earlier this year, the left channel of P1 started to go out. I contacted Reinhart Thoress and he made the following suggestions:

"Mit first idea is that you were experiencing
an inproper contact (toneracable PLUG > (one of the) P1 JACKS).
Cure:
Make sure that the plugs sit firmly on the jacks.
Use a gripper to (cautiosly !!!) tighten the
ground collars of the plugs, if necessary.

Second idea:
The extension shaft (rotary switch > source dial)
does not run smoothly in its front bearing.
===>
Inporper contact within the rotary switch.
Cure:
Remediate bearing friction.
Grease the bearing."

Stangely enough, P1 worked fine the next time I tried it. To be safe, though, I just switched the cable to P2 because P1 and P2 are both set to 100ohms. The issue never happened with P2 and has never happened with the line stage.

MSRP at the time I purchased the preamp was $8000. I believe the current MSRP is $9,500.

Thoress products rarely appear on the used market and perform well above their price points. This would be a wonderful addition for anyone looking for a high-end line stage or phono stage.

Thank you for looking.
