This deck was previously used by me and many others at Bushwick Studio in Brooklyn, and Kessler Master also in Brooklyn. I am out of the music biz now and I sent the deck to audio guru John Chester, who is a famous technician and knows tape decks better than just about anyone. He has been at the center of audio electronics since the 60's, he takes care of JRF's decks, designed the Plangent system, he runs the AMPEX List-serve, the list goes on and on.

John is a close friend and I sent the deck to him to do a full dressing down and calibration and to leave no stone unturned. This is probably the best performing ATR available anywhere, at any price, including directly from ATR Services. There are so few techs left on earth who have the 360 degree understanding of how these machines are supposed to be and John is one of a very small handful. Through him, the machine received everything it needed to be a perfect performer, including a new reel motor (as the one of the originals had a bizarre flaw of slightly increased W&F in the middle of the pack), and is now sitting in a crate at John's waiting for its next owner.

Deck comes with a 1/2" Flux Magnetics head assembly, Ampex 1/4" assembly, MRL tapes, extra flanges, Blank ATR tape, ~20 foot remote, manual, plus the availability to chat with John if there are any issues - John is not taking on new customers so this is a huge plus. Both head stacks have record heads as well. After the restoration it was put in a crate and now awaits its next user. If you are looking for a tape machine, you would be very hard pressed to do better.
