Excellent late-production pair of Sixpacs from Audio Electronics Supply, the former low-cost subsidiary of Cary Audio. These were extensively and favorably reviewed in the audio press, and sound great for very little money. They respond very well to tube rolling, demonstrating that the basic circuit and transformers are very good, and the final sound will be mainly determined by tube choice. Standard output tubes are EL-34, but can use 6L6GC, 6CA7, 6550, KT-66, KT-77, KT-88, and KT-90. Input tubes can be 12AX7, 12BZ7, or 12AY7. I am the original owner. EL-84s are used as current sources for the input tubes.
Unlike many push pull amps that are optimized for ultralinear, but have switchable-triode available as a gimmick option, these are dedicated triode-only, and optimized for it. With six output tubes per channel, this is triode with oomph. They drove my Von Schweikert VR-4 jrs with mid-20 Hz region bass extension without a problem.
Rated at 50 wpc with EL-34s, something like 60 wpc with 6550s or KT-88s.
Adjustable negative feedback of zero or -10db (very useful for tailoring to speaker of choice)
4 and 8 ohm transformer taps
One unit has a scuff on the right side of the output transformer cover as shown in the photos. The covers are removable, and could easily be painted, if this is an issue for you. AES products were never about the casework, though, but about excellent sound without exorbitant prices. Also, that unit came from the factory with a slight "wobble," meaning that it doesn't rest squarely on all four feet when sitting on a level surface. I just put a coin under the right rear foot and problem solved.
These will ship with the tubes that they came with - Ruby EL-34, Sino 12AX7, and EH EL-84. The EL-34s and 12AX7 have less than 50 hours on them. The EH EL-84s are what they shipped with as well, but I will supply a fresh pair since the originals of those have a lot of hours on them. I also have the optional bias meter that sells for $100 that makes bias adjustment much easier. They also come with the stock bias adjusting wire harness that requires an ammeter to be connected to the harness clips.
All original boxes, packing materials, manual, and replacement fuses are included.
Payment should be by USPS money order. Check my excellent feedback.
