For years now, the big band jazz scene has been dominated by the dynamic force of Count Basie and his Orchestra, and by the exciting drive of Maynard Ferguson and his band. Both had effectively contributed to the influence and stature of the big band. It seems only appropriate to survey the big band jazz scene for ’65 by bringing together in one recording, two giants of big band jazz; two men and their orchestras who have, more than any other musicians, been responsible for all that big band jazz means in 1965. Today, Count Basie and Maynard Ferguson are the BIG BAND SCENE ’65.
