Hello, For sale is an Amherst Audio A-2000 Amplifier. This amplifier was engineered and designed by Steve Keiser, the K
of B & K Components from Buffalo NY. In the eary-mid 1990's, Steve Keiser (of B & K fame, now associated with Luminance Audio) designed an amp and preamp for a third party which ultimately became Amherst Audio (Amherst referring to Amherst (NY) which is near Buffalo.
The concept was high-end performance on a moderate budget(+/- $1000 components). A first run of amps and preamps was fabricated (+/- 50 of each), and the decision was made to discontinue because the manufacturing cost was simply too high to achieve the price goals. The outward appearance of the components is very plain, but the construction is far from mundane. For example, the amp has a hugh toroidal transformer, and the amp and preamp have gold plated jacks and appear to use very high quality parts. Here is some info reported from The Audio Circuit. "Top Quality Hitachi Complementary Lateral Mosfet Output Stages, 4 L-MOSFETS per channel. High Quality Gold Input and Output jacks. All steel chassis with Alum andonized heat sinks. DC coupled circuitry with DC servo offset nulling. Adjustable output stage DC bias (300 mA factory setting). Adjustable input offset stage for output DC offset nulling. Input power spec. = 115 VAC, 50-60 Hz only"
The internals are VERY SIMILAR to the Luminance KST-150 (which is a $3000.00 amplifier also engineered and designed by Steve Keiser). Output specifications of the amp appear to be 150 watts/ch @ 8 ohms, and 250 watts/ch @ 4 ohms. Weight is a little over 30 pounds.
I have 2 amplifiers available. The price is $325.00 each. This is one of the best deals you will ever find from an amp of this quality. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED with this purchase. I also have one additional amp and Amherst Audio P-2000 pre amp that I will NEVER part with. The components are that good. Good Luck.
