"Beethoven worked on the Fifth Symphony for more than four years, completing it in 1808, and introducing it on December 22 of that year at what must have been one of the most extraordinary concerts in history. The marathon program included the Fifth and Sixth Symphonies; the Choral Fantasy, Op. 80; the Fourth Piano Concerto; and parts of the Mass in C. Vienna was in the grip of exceptionally cold weather, the hall was unheated, and the musicians woefully under-prepared. Following early indifference, the public only gradually began to come to terms with the Fifth." - AMG.

Incredibly detailed. Each instrument is highly defined and can immediately be identified, even when playing in a massed group. Especially impressive is the String Bass and Cellos where you can hear each note crystal clear and well defined - as opposed to hearing just 'deep Bass' with little or no definition. The dynamic range and tonality are exceptional. The soundstage is wide and deep and imaging is very strong. A stunning recording.
Surface noise is mostly very faint, low-level 'crackles' which barely sound. Side 2 beginning has approx.40 seconds of surface noise and then subsides.
Each record is washed on a VPI cleaning machine using a proprietary 3-5 agent process which is determined by the needs of the individual record. Each record is then listened to 100% to insure that the posted description is exactly what you can expect to get.
