In the late 70’s and for most of the 80’s and 90’s, Nakatsuka-San designs can be spotted in the form of the famed trio (pun intended) of Accuphase cartridges and the very closely related Monster Cable cartridges, just to name a few.

The AC1 and AC2 look identical, but there are slight technical specification differences. The AC3 does not possess the elegant gold body, but instead has a smaller black body. The two earlier versions of the cartridge use an aluminum/magnesium cantilever that is reinforced with a beryllium rod. The AC3 has a boron cantilever with the same type of beryllium rod treatment.

For long life and linear action, a very pure elastomer has been chosen for the damper—an area of research in which Mr. Nakatsuka of ZYX has specialized since the mid-1980s, when he developed the Alpha Genesis series of cartridges for Monster Cable.
