Brand New, Unopened Box (see picture). This is the original Alpha Reference DAC Series 1 that was selling for $16,000,00. This unit is not Series 2 which retails for $19,500 but it can be upgraded by the manufacturer for $3,500. So, you could have a brand new Series 2 for about $4,000 less. [The pictures of the unit are from the Berkeley's web site since I didn't open the original packaging]
The unit was sitting and waiting for my listening room renovation that's taking too long so I decided to sell it. It's probably the best DAC out there and deserves to be used.
Reference DAC Series 1 with Ultra low phase noise Precision Clocking at 44.1kHz, 48kHz, 88.2kHz, 96kHz, 176.4kHz and 192kHz sampling; XLR balanced and RCA unbalanced variable outputs, AES - XLR,; SPDIF1 - BNC, SPDIF2 - BNC, and TOSLINK digital inputs.
The Absolute Sound review
says: "The Berkeley Alpha DAC Reference Series is not only the absolute state of the art in digital-to-analog conversion, it also goes far beyond even this superlative to redefine what’s possible in digital playback. This is a landmark product in that it crosses a threshold of sound quality and musical expressiveness that renders moot the idea that digital can only aspire to mimic analog rather than offer its own set of virtues."
