These are the famous "Energy 22 Reference Connoisseur" floor standing speakers, in the very rare "piano-black" finish. The model numbers are the same for both speakers, 5316 LEFT and 5316 RIGHT.

The "piano-black" model was about double the price of the wood-finish models at approximately $5,000 versus about $2,500 for the wood-finish models. These speakers were the reference speakers for "UHF Magazine" (Ultra High Fidelity), for about a decade.

I am still waiting for the foam cover-rings that go over the tweeter flanges. When they arrive, I will install them. The speakers will look exactly like a stock pair, but will sound substantially better.

The "Connoisseurs" are SUBSTANTIALLY better sounding than the "Energy 22 Pros" or the "Energy 22 Reference", there is no comparison. The piano-black finished Connoisseurs are much better sounding and better made than the wood-finish Connoisseurs. In the past, I also had a rosewood wood-finish Connoisseur. The cabinet material on the piano-black is high density fiber-board versus medium density, and the tweeter flange/cover is made of aluminum in the piano-black versus plastic. Also, the tweeter and the woofer are fastened to the baffle with bolts and T-nuts in the piano black, versus regular wood screws into the wood baffle, for the wood finish Connoisseur's. This allows great tightening of the drivers, for superior sound.

These speakers have been substantially upgraded. The tweeters have been re-built to original specifications, including new ferro-fluid, by Christopher Coote of "ABI Tech" in Halifax Canada, the only official and recommended re-builder of the famous "million dollar tweeter", which is used in the Connoisseurs. As is widely known, within a decade or two, the ferro-fluid in these tweeters ages and begins to harden and evaporate, therefore, the tweeters overheat, burn out and stop working. These tweeters have been re-built less than 4 months ago, they are essentially, brand new. This costs $400, by itself.

Other upgrades include the crossover. The crossover has been improved by using the the best parts anywhere. All crossover parts upgrades are the exact same values/sizes as the original crossover parts. The 3 capacitors for the tweeter have been upgraded with "Auricap" capacitors, one of the most accurate and musical capacitors in the world. The woofer inductor/coil has been upgraded with the world-renown "Goertz/Alphacore" copper-foil air-cored inductors. The tweeter resistor has been upgraded with the sensational "Mundorf M-Resist" resistors, a world class resistor.

New internal wire has been used inside the speaker, the excellent "Audioquest PSC+" (Perfect Surface Copper Plus), a top-notch cable. All the connections are soldered (no crappy tin push-on connectors used here) with the the best solder I have heard, "Cardas Quad Eutectic Solder".New upgraded binding posts have been relocated to the back of the speakers and are the-top-of-the-line "Cardas Copper Binding Post" plated with rhodium over silver plating, arguably the best connector on the planet.

The only reason I am selling my cherished speakers is that I am going to try electrostatic speakers, for a new thrill. I may regret this sale, you know.

These are, without question, THE BEST sounding Connoisseurs I have heard, period! All these upgrades have made a great "stock" speaker, into an incredible and exceptional sounding one. The imaging is incredible; the bass is fantastic, quick, tight and deep; incredible mid-range with excellent body; and the high frequencies are transparent, extended and smooth, easy to listen to for hours and days.

Just the upgraded parts and the re-built tweeters alone on these speakers cost $1,060, not including labour. Thus is one heck of a deal!

I have the original black grills, which are in superb shape.I do not have the original boxes, but can pack them properly for safe shipping to you.

Any questions, please let me know.

Thanks for looking.
