HAFLER DH 110 Preamp - a classic! [Expired]

Almost everybody who started their audio journey in the seventies did some high end teething on components designed by David Hafler. For good reason; they offered sound quality comparable to all but the most exotic of brands, were well built, and usually offered features other reasonably priced components left off. Those qualities still hold true today. Case in point, this lovely little preamp, made right here in the U.S.A., in Pennsauken, N.J. It's got two tape inputs, a phono input, tuner, and aux (your cd player will work there). Want to listen in mono? There's a button for that. Want to compensate for those drapes on your front wall, or the windows on your rear wall, well this puppy has tone controls to adjust the frequency balance. There's a balance control (nice when one side of the room is brighter sounding than the other). There's even a headphone jack, built-in. If it sounds like fun, it is. But it also sounds (in the listening sense) terrific, because David Hafler knew how to design simple, straightforward designs, and used quality components throughout. Quite simply, this preamp can be one of two things; either a fabulous entry level preamp you can enjoy now, or a terrific back-up preamp for when your next super-expensive jobbie heads to the shop for service. I've enjoyed it both ways, having found it's always nice to have a dependable, flexible piece for stand-in and test purposes, as well as to be the mainstay of my "b" system. This one's in excellent condition. Works perfectly. A little paint has scuffed off the edges of a couple of the controls, but that's because it's been used and enjoyed. The blemishes are very modest, however, and you'll quickly forget about them. I'll miss this preamp. After all, it's the type of thing easily missed. Looks good, works well, and handy in all sorts of ways. Here's hoping it finds a good home.
