Hey all, selling my truly beloved James Burgess Custom 45 SET amp with Bubinga hardwood and copper chassis, built in 2011. Can be used as an integrated amp (has volume control), or power amp (as I did). Asking price includes about $1000 in tube-upgrades, all with most of their life left on them that should keep pumping for years (see below).
Those of you who know about Burgess don’t require an introduction, but for those that do he is perhaps the premier custom tube amp builder around these days - certainly for SET amps he has the highest regard and reputation. Reviews and further information are available on sites like audiokarma (audiogon’s fascist policy against HTML links prevents me from including them.). He doesnt have a website, and does business person-to-person (I can provide contact info to the buyer), which makes his sucess all the more striking. He had a former life as a jeweler, and his amp creations like this are as beautiful as anything out there. When you add the way the tube glow sparkles off the copper....yowzah). My amateur pictures do not capture. Only selling because I discovered some speakers I love even more that dont mate with this. Though I do fear I will regret this...if only I could keep both.

I dont have manufacturer-type specifications, but I understand this puts out about 2.5-3 watts - drove my 97db Zu Omens (also for sale) wonderfully, and even my 89db Epos speakers filled my living room with plenty of lively sound. And the parts are definitely top-notch:

Tubes Included: 1 Pair vintage RCA Silvertone 45 Output tubes ($200), 1 pair Modern Sophia Globe Mesh 45 Output tubes ($450), 1 pair Mazda 12AT7 input tubes ($125, from Upscale Audio), 1 pair vintage Genelex GEC 12AT7 input tubes, 1 pair vintage RCA Cleartop 12AU7A input tubes, 1 Mullard GZ34/5AR4 Rectifier, 1 RCA 5AR4 Rectifier.

Amp did not come to me with a power cord, though I can include a stock black cable from another device if you wish. I could be persuaded to part with the near-new, 2m Tara Labs cable I’ve been using for $135 (retails for $250-$300).

Condition is really near-mint - could perhaps be rated 8/10 depending on your interpretation of the following: the unique coating Burgess used on the copper, to prevent oxidation (you dont want a green statue of liberty top, or to be constantly polishing it), and which, examined up close int he light, has a sort of subtle “dotted” pattern on the film. This is clearly visible/documented in exaggeration (due to the camera flash) in the picture of the rear.$4000 retail price includes tube upgrades.
