The KAB SpeedStrobe was designed to replace and improve upon older strobe designs that relied on power line frequency. KAB also wanted something that was easier to use and included the ability to actually measure small amounts of error. Not just a go-no-go test. The KAB SpeedStrobe features a quartz locked illuminator with 99.99% accuracy. And since it is battery operated, it works everywhere. No need for 50 or 60 Hz versions. The disc is silk screen printed on durable 20 mil PVC. Instead of hypnotic bars, the KAB SpeedStrobe features the actual speed numbers. In use, the desired speed is read directly from the disc; no searching for the right band. Customer Reviews (5.00 Stars) 12 person(s) rated this product. Yes; It Works Great!posted on 04/14/2011 5 Stars Reviewer: Hs Okay, got this thing yesterday and tried it out last night; it works, just as advertised! Very easy to use and the very best speed check device I've run across yet!! A little pricey IMO but you only ever have to buy just one. Highly recommended. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Incredible!!!!!posted on 01/06/2011 5 Stars ok lets put it this way: before you buy a turntable, buy a KAB Speedstrobe and put it on top of anything that turns...you will learn the principles of turntables, and how they work. I fine tuned my heavily modified VPI tnt with flywheel and SDS to the max!!! learn all the secrets of bearing oils and inverted bearing oils, and how they affect the speed of your turntable!!!! plus belt tensions ect ect. crazyy run now to buy!!!!! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- INDISPENSABLEposted on 05/01/2010 5 Stars Must-have tool for any audiophile. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Holy Guacamole, Batman! This thing works!posted on 01/28/2009 5 Stars Reviewer: J.C. So simple, even a lawyer or an audio reviewer can't manage to screw it up! All you have to do is place the disc on your turntable platter, start it up, point the strobe light at the disc and see the speed of your turntable appear magically as it slowly drifts to the left (too fast), the right (too slow), or remains stationary (just right, says baby bear). If your turntable's speed is adjustable, change the speed so the drift in either direction stops. I used it to set the speed on my VPI Super Scoutmaster for both 33.3 and 45 rpm and now it's 99.99% accurate. What does that translate into musically? Drums sound accurate, guitars sound right and the vocal pitch of the singers are dead on. For the price, this thing is a no-brainer; it works with no muss, no fuss, and takes only a few minutes to get your speed calibrated properly. Trust me, this is one accessory that is both indispensable and works like a charm. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SpeedStrobe confirmed speed problemposted on 11/12/2008 5 Stars Reviewer: Dr. Tobin Music sounded a bit fast on my Pro-Ject RM-5 TT and the KAB SpeedStrobe confirmed what I thought I heard: the speed was too fast by nearly 0.3% (the numbers on the SpeedStrobe drifted 9.5 places to the left in one minute) @ 33.3 rpm with no stylus drag. Checking the rotation speed @ 45 rpm evinced an even greater drift. The good news: I confirmed that I wasn't hearing things; my TT was running fast. The bad news: knowing this, I had to drop another $500+ and replace my Pro-Ject Speed Box II with the Pro-Ject Speed Box SE (it has a speed adjustment feature)! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Works perfectlyposted on 08/04/2007 5 Stars I am very happy with the Speedstrobe. Easy to use, perfectly functioning! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Works greatposted on 04/17/2007 5 Stars Reviewer: Jeff Setting speed now is a breeze. Highly recommended! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The rare perfect gadgetposted on 01/23/2007 5 Stars If you want to be sure your turntable speed is exactly right, there is no better way than this. Super easy to use and easy to read, you can adjust each standard speed to perfection (assuming your TT allows adjustment). Well worth the price. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Very easy to use and reliable.posted on 10/08/2006 5 Stars -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Just as Advertisedposted on 10/07/2006 5 Stars It work as advertised and I now know just how far off my turntable is. Too bad I can't adjust it to the proper speed. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Truly a must have!posted on 09/27/2006 5 Stars I am always very leery of audio reviewers - too many of them have never met a product they don't like... The trouble with most speed test devices is that the strobe runs on house current - the same current your TT runs on. If the house current is above or below 60 Hz, your TT speed may be off, and so will your tester, so you won't be able to detect the error. The strobe in this unit is driven by a battery-powered crystal-controlled oscillator, so it is independent of household electricity. I have a superb TT - a VPI HRX with a stable AC controller. When I set my stable TT power supply to 60 Hz, you would think the TT would run right on speed, right? WRONG! I was running 3% slow! You see, it isn't just the power line frequency that determines speed - it is also everything else in the mechanical chain - pulleys, belt size, friction, etc. This device allowed me to set my speed precisely and easily - what a great tool!
