For sale is pair of KEF Coda 9.2, floor standing full range speakers. These speakers are eight years old, having been purchased from a KEF dealer in Chicago and lightly used in a basement home theater system. These speakers are in excellent condition, fully functional. The rating of 8 of 10 is due largely to age. The speakers have a few small wear marks, nothing visible from a distance of more than few feet. The speakers grills and binding posts are excellent. These speakers are high quality vinyl-wrapped, dark rosewood in color. They are not furniture grade wood but look fine. The binding posts are single post and not bi-wireable. The Codas come with both black carpet spikes and built on black rubber feet for wood floors. The speakers come with their grills and original manuals, but not with their original boxes. You can find the exact specs of these speakers online at the KEF website. The nominal impedance is 6 ohm.
These speakers received an excellent review in Gramophone magazine when they were released in 1999. You can find this review on google. The entire Coda range was highly popular in Europe and you can find reviews of other Coda speakers in places such as TNT audio online. The Codas were the last mainline speakers KEF produced in the UK prior to shifting production to the far east. These Coda 9.2s were fairly rare in the US.
These speakers are full range, and easily go down to 40hz. Like many small floor standing speakers, they produce a surprising amount of bass for their size. They sound like classic British speakers; accurate, neutral, and fast. They have virtually no character or coloration at all.
This speakers are highly sensitive, with their tested specifications at 91b. I have played them successfully on a few SET amplifiers, with outputs of 6.5 to 12 tube watts in medium to small sized rooms. I am currently playing them with a 10 watt TA2020 T-amp and they’re running full range in a 12 by 15 room. I’ve never played them on extremely low powered amplifiers like a 2A3 SET. They will run on 8 to 10 watts as long as the room is fairly small.
I played these speakers on several amplifiers over the years. They sounded best on tubes or on lively British integrated solid state amplifiers (Naim Nait or Rega Brio, for example).
