I am selling a Larry Owen's modified DEQX HDP-4, the DEQX is an amazing piece of gear by itself but the Modifications took it it to another level. This are not DIY type modifications, these where done by Larry Owens the USA guru DEQX expert and the mods do not affect the warranty. this unit still have 8 months of warranty left and at my asking price I will include up to 2 hours of initial calibration from Larry Owens, so he can configure it in you system ( this is done via phone or video and its needs to be scheduled with Larry).

I am also including the Earthworks DM23 Reference calibration mic this mic alone is over $700

To summarize:

I am including:
DEQX HDP4: $5500
Larry Owens Mods: $995
DEQX Calibrated Earthworks DM23 Mic: $745
3 hours of Calibration services from Larry Owens: $195

A total retail value of: $7,435 and you can have it for $4,700 and still have 8 months of warranty.

Below some info regarding the Modifications:

Applying custom USB Control input ECOs,
provisioning the necessary circuitry changes to make all digital inputs & outputs fully compliant with AES standards,
upgrading all five analog input circuits with new, premium-performance audio components that have been specifically selected for each functional stage after over 2 years of bench testing and critical listening,
adding RFI/EMI filtering to all inputs to minimize stray pick-up of unwanted noise,
modification of the mainboard to chassis grounding scheme to enforce single-point grounding and eliminate ground-loop paths,
adding custom-built RFI/EMI filtering to the mains power input to minimize stray pick-up of unwanted noise from the 'earth' connection,
upgrading all signal coupling capacitors to film composition with polypropylene bypasses and in some sections organic polymer devices,
upgrading all analog and select digital power supply filter capacitors to ultra-low ESR, high Q-factor devices (robust and lower impedance power supplies are key factors here),
adding power supply reserves directly adjacent to the final active output buffers for more responsive current slewing,
re-working the analog output module for more linear operation and better sound,
upgrading all I/V, LPF, and buffer circuits with new, premium-performance audio opamp components that have been specifically selected for each functional stage after over 4 years of bench testing and critical listening,
upgrading the LPF circuits with custom engineered solutions that extend the audio bandwidth and reduce broadband noise - simultaneously,
bench testing, burn-in and KRC warranty certification. In all, this work consumes over 50 parts (including surface-mount and custom-fit active and passive components) and more than 10 hours to accomplish, including application of custom engineering work. Unlike some 'power filtering' mods, there is no compromise of system safety and special care was given to failure-mode analysis.

Questions for the seller
Hello, I'm interested. I have had the DEQX 2.6, 3.4 and currently the 4.0 for a few years now. Did you get a chance to listen before and after to evaluate the mods done by Larry? How would you rate or best describe the difference. I ask because because I'm pretty impressed with the stock 4.0, wondering if it's worth the trouble to try yours out. Thank you for taking the time. Brian
Yes, the 2 main improvements where lower noise floor and improved realism (soundstage) since you are familiar with the DEQX you already know that, it's Achilles' tendon is the 3 DAC's output stages and the USB input and those 2 are upgraded by Larry in this unit, and these modifications do not affect the warranty and if you look inside the unit, it is hard to tell that nothing was done, Larry is a pro, not like other mods out there that look like an spaghetti bowl and act like a giant antenna! The only possible way to improve the unit even further it's to bypass the DAC's by using the BNC outputs into 3 separate high quality ($2,000+) DAC's. but as you can see that can be an expensive approach. Looking forward in doing business with you. Best, Eric
