THIS AUCTION IS OPEN TO BIDDERS IN THE US AND CANADA ONLY.

These speakers are used, but in fantastic condition.

I will rate these at 8/10 but I believe that they deserve higher. I just want to be conservative in case there are a few insignificant scratches that we missed.

The photos of BOXES is of the pair for sale.

Even if we DID have photos of the speakers, it would not help you make a decision...it would show no significant blemishes!

These speakers have amplifiers and D/A converters built-in. This means that any agonizing over the perfect match between you speakers and amp is gone. Decisions about speaker cables are bypassed with this design. Even better, you’re getting Meridian-quality amplifiers; which I consider to be one of the best.

When connected to Meridian components, everything communicates with everything else for great sound AND ease of use.

These speakers are like pro-monitors…they are self powered, and internally they have multiple amps for the drivers.

Professional studio self-amplified speakers are different. They have ELECTRONIC CROSSOVERS that divide the sound to the woofer amp and tweeter amp at preamp level. The amps each only amplify a portion the music’s frequency range.

Removing crossover components between the amp and speaker means no wasted power, less heat, and increased damping on the speaker driver, for greatly improved transient response.

You also get less coloration, since each driver is now electrically damped outside its operating range. This is a good thing. With ordinary speakers, the driver is electrically un-damped outside its operating frequency range and can resonate freely.

This type of design also allows for active equalization for much smoother response, and dramatically better bass.

Each amplifier can be selected to suit its purpose exactly, for better bass punch and treble smoothness and liquidity.

But these Meridian DSP8000 speakers go much farther. These speakers have DIGITAL inputs and do all of their crossover slopes and correcting in the DIGITAL domain. Any little peaks and dips in the speaker’s response that would be impractical to correct in a normal crossover is taken care of my the “brain” in the speaker.

The tuning of the cabinet is textbook perfect, with electronic response correction.

Inside the speaker are individual amplifiers for various drivers. Since the volume controlling is done INSIDE the speaker, some “magic” happens.

If we could always play our stereo at “live” volume, all would be fine. On the other hand, because of neighbors and other family members, 95% of us play at softer-the—live volumes most of the time.

The problem is that at lower volumes, our perception of bass degrades…up to about 15dB within our normal listening window. This means that if you listen at low volumes, there is up to 15dB TOO LITTLE BASS!

This makes us correct, either using tone controls or speaker placement, to hear that bass at OUR AVERAGE LISTENING VOLUME. But the sound gets boomy now if we bring the volume up.

The old solution was a loudness button that made your old amp produce progressively more bass as the volume control was reduced. Usually WAY too much bass, since the amp had no idea what your speaker sensitivity was or how “hot” the recording was produced.

In a DSP speaker, the speaker’s sensitivity, amplifier gain, and actual recorded volume level are all KNOWN!

Meridian has taken full advantage of this, with individual equalization curves built in for every volume setting from 0-100 (remember that the volume is controlled inside the speaker), and accounting for the level of the recording.

The result is a speaker that sound great at high volumes, but that is so superior to all other designs when played at low volumes that any comparison is futile.

If you live in an apartment and are forced to listen at reduced levels much of the time, and you still want a full, rich sound, then this is your speaker!

Walk into the next room and it sounds more like a live music event is taking place a room away.

You will hear things in your recordings that you have never heard before. These speakers can reproduce the low frequency notes on a pipe organ with real power. I know of no other speaker with better bass.

Since these speakers are self-energized, they have shockingly DEEP bass. It’s amazing. It sounds like the speakers are attached to the foundation of your house.

Each part of the audible spectrum has its own perfectly-matched amplifier.

Questions for the seller
You did not answer my private question. Why does the box label show DSP8000 and not DSP8000.2? Can you show more pictures instead of crooked cool looking picture?
You can tell they are .2 because of the M logo on the front.
Does it accept 192Khz input?
Yes
