UPDATE: Price reduced plus I will include all tubes in listing.
Up for sale is a Rhumba 1.2 Extreme
preamp. Backert Labs upgrades a standard Rhumba to bring it pretty close in performance to the flagship Rhythm. The case isn't as nice as the Rhythm but it's no slouch either. This is off the Backert website:
Upgrades that place the Rhumba Extreme above and beyond our standard Rhumba 1.2:
- Our proprietary auto-bias circuit, from the Rhythm. Your preamp is perfectly biased for each tube you insert. Automatically. Continually. Only available at Backert Labs.
- “Best of the best” output capacitors from Mundorf – their latest.
- Premium 12au7 tubes.
- Upgraded polypropylene capacitors throughout the power supply and gain stage.
- Premium Terracones feet, from edenSound.
The Rhumba Extreme takes the big, beautiful sound of the Rhumba 1.2 and adds more midrange resolution. Imaging and microdynamics are also more accurate.
I am the second owner of this preamp. I bought it in September 2017 from an Agon member who said he owned it for 3 months until he upgraded to an expensive integrated. Still has a couple years left on the transferable warranty. I am rating it 8/10 since I am the second owner but it's only 1 year old and in excellent condition, no marks that I can see. It comes with a solid, metal remote for volume control. The remote shows some normal wear but is still in good condition.
The factory supplied PS Vane tubes are currently installed and I will include 4 Electro-Harmonix tubes that the previous owner supplied. Also included are 2- RCA Triple Mica 5814 Black Plates recommended by Upscale Audio ($150 value).
BONUS: For your tube rolling pleasure I will automatically include 2- 1950's NOS Mullard tubes (England) and 2- 1960's Amperex tubes (Holland).
I should also mention that contrary to Backert Labs' website, this Rhumba Extreme inverts phase. It is one of the earlier units and Backert did not yet start supplying units phase correct. Correct phase is easily rectified by reversing connections at the speaker.
I will ship Fedex insured in the factory box for a flat $50 fee and cover the balance as well as Paypal fees. Thank you.
