Remarks Found Online:

  • “These were very bullet
proof amps made during the mid/late 70's. Very powerful, all doubled their
power as the load halved, pure complimentary design, which was very rare
at the time, very open, transparent and neutral in tonal balance, very
un-solid state sounding. I owned a 500 which was supposed to be 250
watts/chan 8 ohms. My unit had been tweaked it so it was more like 380
    watts/channel.”

  • “I sold the products in
the New England area in the mid 1970s. The owners were actually doctors (
Ron Dunlap and Mel Clarke ). Ron developed the amps to be tanklike because
he owned Dayton Wright electrostatic speakers which were very difficult to
drive. We used them at the store I worked at to drive the Koss Model 1
electrostat and also to really light up DQ-10s. Great guys who built great
    gear.”

  • “Dr. Ron Dunlap as a
serious hobby designed a series of amps under the name Dunlap-Clarke, out
of the Boston area (Watertown), called the Dreadnaught. This was in the
late 70s. There was the brutish 1000, the smaller but still massive 500,
and the smaller, but still impressively large 250. These amps were mich
liked by members of the Boston Audio Society and were a great choice to
feed early power hungry pigs like AR 9s and Dahlquist DQ-10s.”
