BLACK SHADOW Double Ribbon Cables
1 meter Magnetic
Installed this evening ..............and WOW.............this is over the top. What would you say the break in period (if any) is for this cable. Thanks again,
I have a Mark Levinson no.37 transport that I "hot-rodded" and a Mark Levinson no. 36S DAC that I tweaked.
Over time I have tried many AES/EBU interconnects since the manufacturer recommends the AES/EBU balanced lines as their recommendation. I've tried many store bought hi-end and DIY interconnects and none were competitive with the AT&T St-Optical interface.
Note I said ST-Optical NOT TOSLINK. So I tried your ribbon cable in that spot. As it turned out, although the difference was dramatic, your ribbon cable gets the job done and is more musical and more transparent than the ST-Optical. And just when I thought I have a grasp of digital playback When does it end?! With the magnet on the AES/EBU digital interconnect the ST-Optical connection sounds flat by comparison! Before it was close call with the ribbon (digital application) sounding better. With the magnet installed it is no longer a contest.
I can switch back-and-forth while running a CD and made comparisons with different music and with so-called audiophile quality recordings.I can quite easily say without reservation or pause that you have a new market for your ribbon cable.I looked up the ribbon you use and it is primarily used for digital data and in my experience it does very well with audio digital data (which is more critical) -- better even than ST-Optical.Having said that -- you must be a very patient guy. I have made many a DIY cable and I know that your ribbon stuff must be a royal pain-in-ass to terminate that way. OH! By the way. The Nordost Red Dawn is a ribbon cable and compared to yours it is not even a contest. Or even Nordost Odin.
Your ribbon AES cable arrived today...I immediately connected my Berkeley Alpha Series ll DAC with it...and changed my mind about selling the DAC!!! :)
You have a real winner there Marcus...congrats...
