"The Telarc Label, Frederick Fennell, Conducting the Cleveland Symphonic Winds, has long been hailed as the all time tour de force of the digital to LP medium. This album has indeed few peers in this medium and has in my opinion yet to be equaled in digital to LP format. There are very few pivotal moments in audio or the recording industry. This is such a moment, not to be missed.
Recorded in real time, with absolutely no compression or limiting of any kind whatsoever. With that being said all involved with this recording had to be spot on, there was no room for errors. It is with that over riding dedication to effort that produced this once in a lifetime moment, that was captured for all to enjoy.
Without question Frederick Fennell, was the grand master of this genre of music and before this Telarc recording, had a large body of work on the Mercury Living Presence series with the Eastman group. Those remain today as true hallmark recordings.
These early Telarc LPs, were only sold in high - end audio salons of the day. They were expensive, pressed in Europe, and were very limited in distribution.
This is the original (not the later single jacket) gatefold LP, with in depth liner notes on how this recording was made and the principals involved as well as photographs showing this historic session, that will never again be duplicated.
One of a handful of Classical recordings that listeners of other genres totaly embrace and has that forever space in their library.
However a due word of caution is warranted to the uninitiated. As menetioned earlier this is a real time recording with no compression or limiting. This LP has extreme wide ranging dynamics and will tax the finest playback systems to their limits. Excercise due caution upon first playback to avoid possible equipment damage or failure. Make no mistake this LP has probably wrecked more systems than most would care to admit.
But with due caution observed, this is perhaps the most spectacular recording of the past century. Nothing I have heard since can come close to the spectacular sonics of this LP. When played back the household pets will dive for cover, your spouse will be running around trying to keep the paintings on the walls, neighbors will be calling 911, you will find yourself standing in front of your system conducting the Cleveland Symphonic Winds, and when the smoke has cleared, you will be exhausted after the last track has played!!!" - American Audiophile.
