Chartwell LS3/5A Rosewood

Here for sale is the legendary Chartwell LS3/5A’s finished in the very much sort after Rosewood.
Apparently there was only 200 pairs finished  in Rosewood.


These are 15 ohms and they do sound so wonderful. They most certainly live up to their hype as THE LS3/5A to have.


The cabinets are in good order but there are some small marks on some corners again shown in the photos. Apart from those odd corners the cabinets as a whole look respectful and do not have any significant gauges or deep scratches. They have that nice warm patina like a piece of vintage furniture that has been cared for. Some scuffing on the bottom, from stands I would think. The marks were there when I received them. These speakers are in original condition.

They have a very smooth response from top to bottom. The midrange in particular is to die for, absolutely sublime. Never peaky or bright. The mids remind me of the Quad ESL57 in a much more manageable size. Imaging is spooky real with these. Instruments exist in their own space.
 

The 15 ohm impedance makes these speakers perfect for vintage tube amplifiers. The speakers perform their best when the 16 ohm tap is used.
 

They are a consecutive matched pair as you will see by the serial numbers. These have had only two owners from new and I’m one of them.
