Audion Golden Dream 300B PSET Monoblock Amplifiers

Audion Golden Dream 300B Parallel Single Ended Vacuum Tube Monoblock Power Amps. US voltage, 120V. Cosmetically & electrically excellent, used condition. Sonic performance better than when new by virtue of upgrades to power supply capacitors, power supply shielding and solid state rectifiers -- work done by Bob Hovland. These amps are Golden Dream Level 6 -- the transformer secondary windings are silver wire, as is the point-to-point circuit wiring. These monoblocks are among the highest resolution, most musical amps available. Audion electronics are now made in France. This pair was made in the UK.
Magnetics are fully broken in. Gorgeous, wideband, objective triode sound. Not mushy old-school SET. Lively, fast, transparent, tone-rich musicality. Equipped with KR 300B "balloon glass" power tubes for impact, attack, tone and best possible 300B SET bass. When I bought these, they were rated 24 watts each mono amp, and they sound more powerful. Audion now rates them at 20w each. Very soft clipping. Outstanding with Zu speakers (101 db/w/m) and other high efficiency speakers 88 db/w/m or better.

The base Level 5 amps without silver secondaries are listed new for $17,999 in the US. These are Level 6 with silver secondaries at greater cost. 4 ohm and 8 ohm outputs via 5 way binding posts. 1 RCA input on each amp. Input level control on each amp. I will supply with extra NOS input and driver tubes, as well as backup 300B power tubes from Shuguang and Sophia. The KR 300B tubes in the amps have 2/3rds to 3/4s of their life left. The KR 300B tubes alone cost $1900 for two matched pairs, which in this case are close enough to be a matched quad. This is the most robustly-made 300B today. Very long life, and quiet. Each amp weighs 33 pounds tubed. I had plywood crates made for shipping, which weigh 29 pounds each, so shipping weight will be 62 lbs. per amp. Shipping will be custom quoted at my cost. If you prefer not to pay for the added weight of shipping in the plywood crates, the amps can be shipped in their original cardboard boxes, but these gems deserve the crates, which also accommodate the original fitted packaging.

I am selling these not for any audio reason nor due to any dissatisfaction. There are non-audio circumstances driving this and I will eventually replace them with the all-silver-windings version at much higher cost. The Audion Golden Dream is, when matched to the right speaker, among the two or three highest-fidelity, most tonally authentic amplifiers you can buy. This pair is special.
