Yes, this is the Beast.

The Sansui TU-X1 is widely and correctly regarded as one of the best – if not the best – super tuners ever made.  Clearly superior to the Marantz 10B, Sequerra Model 1, etc., details about this extraordinary tuner are available at FM Tuner Info, including their reviews and “Shootout” comparisons between top units (http://www.fmtunerinfo.com/sansui.html#sansui-tux1).  I am the 2nd owner, having kept it in a ventilated closed cabinet; the prior owner kept it packed and unused in a closet for many years, which accounts for its great condition.  We both used it only occasionally during our years of ownership.  This is a destination product.

After my purchase, the unit was examined and extensively upgraded by Ken Bernacky at Stereo Surgeons in East Hartford, CT (http://www.stereosurgeons.com/).  Ken has worked on a number of my classic Sansui units for 15+ years.  Among other work: electrolytic power supply capacitors replaced; all lights replaced; general features cleaned/deoxidized; AM/FM RF/IF, detectors and separation stages aligned, etc.  (Complete details included with purchase.)  The original antenna connection was rewired and upgraded to coax for connection to a 20-ft outdoor antenna.

The tuner itself weighs 34 pounds; dimension are 19 x 7¾ x 17¾ inches.  Space is needed to accommodate size and weight.  The tuner is in very good condition with only scattered and very minor scratches.  It ships with foam supports in heavy-duty, corrugated double boxes.  Shipping dimensions are 24 x 24 x 14 inches and shipping weight is 52 pounds.  Feet and copies of the original Sansui brochure, service manual, “common parts” list, and schematics are included.
