Erich Leinsdorf Conducts Prokofiev RCA/SONY 6 CD

These brilliant recordings were at the heart of Leinsdorf's achievement with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. How well I can remember their appearance during the 1960's on vinyl. The remastering here is superb and the sound is as fresh a ever. It's a pity that SONY didn't include all of this material in this box: a stunning Scythian Suite and a fine Symphony-Concerto for 'cello are missing and should have formed a 7th CD. A greater pity still is that Leinsdorf left Boston all too soon without doing Symphonies 4 & 7. Included here are Symphonies 2, 3, 5 & 6; the 5 Piano Concertos; the 2 Violin Concertos; excerpts from "Romeo and Juliet" and Lieutenant Kijé Suite.
