Carver C-9

Simple deal. I bought this for the intent to rebuild it. That's what I do and I like it. In this case all 11 electrolytic capacitors have been replaced with superior quality brands such as Panasonic(FM) and Elna(BP). I always replace the RCA jacks in these units with Manley Labs RCA jacks ($5 ea. instead of .99cents). Done hundreds of them with no failure. They are easily superior quality to the original, and much better than the cheap Chinese brand normally used for this. It is simple for me to replace the tiny transformer with a beefier one, and while I am at it, the power inlet is changed from a corded one to a C7 power inlet. There is more that I do but you get the idea of the process. In the end this unit works very well and I am pleased with it's performance.
  >>>> In case you are not aware of this model from Carver, the C-9 was designed to greatly enhance many recordings for a more 3D soundstage. It was the best selling unit that he ever made. I have had one for decades and it is the one component that I won't give up. The unit uses cross cancelation and other methods to fool the brain into believing that the performance is MUCH more real. Yes, it works as described. Speaker placement is essential to it's success and of course a decent sound room completes the effect.

I just can't help but add this note. >>> When you see other ads for these C-9 units on eBay, they are Not rebuilt in any way, and have the 30+ year original parts (especially those 11 electrolytic capacitors that go downhill after 25 years or so) in them. Some sellers even take off the top to show you the insides, and that is one of the giveaways. Same old used parts from the day that they were manufactured. If you can get one for under $100, that is one thing. When the asking price is a whole lot more, beware. Again look at my feedback to get an idea of what my customers think of my work and service.
