    Bottom Line:
You're in the royal burial chamber with Indiana Jones when the two of you force open the Pharoah's crypt. Your luck has held out as the Tomb robbers left the crypt unopened. You then find the Pharoah wearing a pair of STAX ear phones (he IS the Pharoah, after all) which is connected to a box marked 'WALKMAN'. In fact, the Pharoah's entire crypt is littered with shinny clear boxes containing spooled tapes approximately 1/4" in diameter. Tears of joy stream down your face as you realize you have stumbled upon the Pharoah's secret Rock N Roll cache containing hundreds of hours of off the air recordings from his favorite College Radio Shows, 'KMVR 89.5 FM " Mark Bradley's Black Vinly" KDVS 90.3 "Todays Abberation; Tomorrow's Fashion" show. You shutter just thinking about the Post-Punk Pre-Grunge 80's musics he was grooving to ("Cocteau Twins, Urban Verbs, 17 Pygmies, The Lucy Show") that the Pyrimids describe but have been out of print for thousands of years. What do you do? What DO you do?!!!
Get on E-Bay and grab yourself a used Nakamichi DR-8!!!

    Bottom Line:
    This deck has amazing specs.
    Frequency Response: 20-20,000Hz +/-3 dB
Wow and flutter: Less than 0.06% WTD RMS
Fast Wind Time: 80 seconds (C60)
    Signal-to-noise Ratio: Dolby C @ 70dB/Dolby B @ 64dB
    3 motors & 2 Heads (Record/Playback, Erase)
    Includes a fine bias control.

The buttons are logic controls. Super responsive and fast.
Records with brilliant clarity, making Chrome/Metal tapes almost unnecessary. I have been using TDK-D Type I tapes for my Sony Walkman and the warmth, detail and sound reproduction are unbelievable.

    My 2 cents on 2-Head vs 3-Head
I have had 2-Head and 3-Head decks over the years. 3-Head decks are nice when you want to monitor the recording levels of the tape during the recording process. This is not a mandatory feature. The DR-8 has a 20-20,000Hz frequency response with 2 heads. It will record and play back cassettes with quality that rivals any cassette deck.

    Summary
The DR-8 is a 2-Head, 3 motor cassette deck with a 20-20,000Hz frequency response and less than 0.06% WTD RMS wow and flutter. The deck is not loaded with unnecessary bells and whistles. The playback and recording capability rivals most high-end cassette decks.
