Selling my KEF R5!! It comes from a no pet and no smoke
environment.

Like new condition (no scratches nor blemishes) still have
stickers over KEF logo. All packing materials and accessories present.

I am very reluctant to sell my wonderful speakers; they are
very good products. However, I have too many speakers in my house, and I no
longer have any space to accommodate this pair of speakers anymore. I have KEF
ref.3s and B&W 804 D3s by the way. Having said that, the following is my
assessment of the KEF R5 when comparing against its much more expensive
competitors.

Comparing to the KEF reference 3s, R5 is not that far
behind. The top-end of the ref.3s is more extended and airier comparing to the
R5, but only by a small amount. I would say the top-end of the ref.3s is a
little bit more recessed compared to the R5. The soundstage depth and width are
a little bit bigger with the ref.3s. The bass is more punchy and more dynamic
with the ref.3s, and I feel like it can go lower than the R5. I think the
ref.3s has a better and more rigid cabinet, and that helps a lot in terms of
dynamic and sound coloration. The mid-range of the ref.3s is a little bit
sweeter than the R5, but that can be plus or a minus depending on what you want
to hear. Overall, the ref.3s is a more laid-back and more refined speaker
comparing to the R5. For some track, I prefer the R5; and other track, I prefer
the ref.3s. It is kind of hard to decide. An extremely well-recorded track will
sound better with the ref.3s. An average track will sound better with the R5
(which is most of records in the market). Overall, I think the KEF R5 is about
80-90% of the KEF ref.3s. The KEF R5 is an excellent value for money type of
speaker.

Secondly, comparing to the B&W 804 D3, The KEF R5 proven
to be a fine contestant. The high frequency of the R5 is just as refined as the
B&W but not as sharp or as extended. I think the KEF R5 is a more
rolled-off speaker in comparison (to avoid listening fatigue). I can listen to the KEF R5 for hours without getting tired or fatigue.
In term of imaging, the KEF R5 does better than the 804, I think the coaxial
drivers provides some magic here. The KEF R5 has a more focus center image with
more palpable mid-range. I feel like the singer is in the center of the room
when playing through the KEF. The soundstage is also a little bit deeper coming
from the KEF. Overall, if you are really focusing on center imaging (vocal)
with well-defined mid-range, then the KEF R5 should be your better choice.
