JBL Synthesis Array 1400BG "STUNNING" Exotic Ferrari Russo Red Automotive Finish

This set of JBL 1400BG Speakers was taken in on tradebover 2 years ago. The MSRP $14000 has very sturdy and heavy abinet that is a big contributing factor to the sonic performance of this  reference line in Harmon Kardon's brand line up called Synthesis. All  Reference series components drivers, horns and tweeter surely puts these speakers.For the life of me I could never understand why this uniquely shaped and beutifully styled design would use a plastic laminate  to finish it off.  This iswear harmon carden internatiofell short. Literally a plastic lemon is glued to a rough surface particle board. Anyone who's familiar with particle board surely knows. glued to plain paertical board. Especially atl  a $14k price tag in the upper scale synthesis line.  I have always liked and followed theseJBL horn based speaker since my youth.  Even designed And built my first JBL speakers around their drivers, and horns in my youth.. As thus particular model started to age almost every one of them showed signs of stressed finishes sun light fading and dis coloration, peeling clumsy big grills started to make them unattractive.. the sonics though always bought me right back to them and kept my interest in the game. When a customer trade came to  my attention  having three issues dus coloration on one speaker becuase the customers positioning in setup had one exposed to sunlight and the other not.. the colors looked completely different, both had the laminate peeling on several edges and corners. The grill also changed color one-to-one a redish brown the other black the light exposure  turned thecgrill to the redish brown and dried the clumsy big frame to be brittle developing cracks and eroding away in the elements.  At first glance we denied any interest in them on trade.. althoughcdonically both were on their game they just looked like 2 speakers from ifferent sets from cabinets and ggrills.againvthe sonics kept louvering me in like a fish on a line..

Anyways to fill my bucket list i took  them in I couldnt really sell them in this state it just doesnt fit our brand And image because we only sell items that or in 8/10  and up.  So they came home with me but my  OCD kept me on edge.. I simply had no option but to demonstrate to JBL what should have been done in the factoryto enhance image, eliminate discoloration, eliminate peel and turn these cabinets into super exotic home fixes as a added bonus.. 
so all components were removed and off they went to a Professional automotive body shop period we had to go through several steps. The first remove the lamination in this entirety.

We put an expensivetreatment thats much like auto bondo but better adheres to wood. The particular wood  kept soaking it in so we kept buying and adding several layers baking it in and repeating until we acheived the desired goal.  Next came lots of sanding to achieve the smooth foundation to get tovte next step if primer, after that the ferrari dealer took half my daughters coolege fund at 1200 per gallon of paint. Again, several relates and  baking. 
 only to follow with 3 coats of high gloss clear coat, then wet sanding the surfaces down and ending in a lengthy polishing to finish them off.. The amount of effort and labor, materiand time.

To take a rough particle board with variations and glue, build up.  To a super smooth surface

An absolutely stunning.  Physical presentation that will last a lifetime. Not chip peel for this color Just to remind you again, the final finis. A full moon automotive with 3 layers of clear coat.

Automotive finishes can handle the elements. Rain, snow shine.  Let me see light even even small impact without any effect plus you can wax and Polish them on the weekend.Withb your  car. this finish will most likely out live my life and still loke new and fresh.  

although the grilless look on these speakers extremely attractive  much like b&w 800 diamonds my OCD required me to have grills as a chiuce.. but the JBL style grills rectangular in shape would l d cover 80% of the from surface beauty and presentation would just bring them back the the cheezy JBL look was simply not an option . Some extra custom work needed to be done to provide a grill option but not cover the front surface elegance. Now please view the pics on what meets our objective.. it's just stunning and the only set in the world .. the final results meet all our objectives by making them unique,  Eliminate Discoloration call Bob, have them waste a lifetime and then so.

Easy to handle and clean Have a presestation the event wifey would like. And have a grill option that does not cover its beauty but compliment it and achieve the objective of protecting the driver has designed by the manufacturer.

The lamination was starting to peel so this gave me good causes  to invest. $2k in peeling, prepping cabinets for a  2021 Ferrari Russo Metallic Red High Gloss automotive paint.

so now you have Stunning looks, condition and sound. As an added benefit you don’t have to worry about any fading of color or direct sunlight and you can treat these cabinets the way you would treat a car you can even wax it with auto wax.. So no more peeling lamination or concerns about the elements you basically have a Professionally done Automotive exterior that is designed to handle the elements just like a car would.
