The many rave reviews of the ARC Ref75 Amp tell the tale. An already outstanding performer, the Ref75 received a shot of adrenalin when I put in the TungSol KT150 power tubes. I had called Audio Research for more info on the SE upgrade, and the tech I spoke with was very up-front and shared with me that 65% of the SE upgrade was the KT150 tubes. He told me that the amp was already to accept the more powerful tubes – no modifications needed. So, I went with the KT150s and never looked back. Much more powerful sound, but still maintained that delicate delivery of the music’s most subtle nuance. All the qualities of the amp were only enhanced by the KT150s. At that time I also upgraded to a matched pair of Electro-Harmonix gold pin 6H30 tubes. I guess the gold pins are what make them smoother than the stock 6H30s.

As you can see from the pictures the amp is in as-new condition. No scuff, scratches, or signs or wear at all. Tubes have about 1000 hours on them – still plenty of life left.

The ARC Ref75 amp easily takes command of any speakers with uncompromising sound quality and musicality. With the KT150 tubes, the bass performance is the best I have ever heard from a tube amp, regardless of its power rating. Among the tube amps I’ve owned over the past thirty years, was a pair of Manley Labs Neo Classic 250 amps (250 watts each) that wouldn’t hold a candle to the bass performance of the Ref75 with the KT150 tubes.
