| I am running McIntosh 302 for front, McIntosh152 for surround, McIntosh301 for center. What do you mean by caps? Preamp is Rotel RSP1576 MK Ii. Power cords Audioquest A few more questions and I’ll give you my summary conclusion and advice on improving your soundstage..
1. When you say the 803 soundstage is similiar.. similiar to what? What’s the comparison so I have a good idea about the baseline Sonic’s we are improving on and if even possible.. as an example: it you are saying the 893’s are. It sonically impressive to $1000 Focal’s or bowers 801’s I’d say your right. And they most likely would never be…. But if your saying you see no noticeable improvement over bowers 602’s for example then I’ll have a much different opinion and tweak you into a much better soundstage..
2. What’s your source for music? Steamer, cd turntable?? What model? If streaming is it wireless or wired network? What service iTunes, spotify, Quboz….etc?
Once I get this info I can sum a few thinks up for you with advise and recommendations…
As for your question about caps.. your mc302 I presume is driving the 893’s with its 2 channels.. the 302 has 2 very large capacitors and I believe four smaller capacitors in addition to several much smaller capacitors and two sets of multiple power transistors that are divided by right and left channel. The purpose of these caps is to store the power amplification energy into what we can call storage tanks much like a gas tank holds gasoline to power a vehicle. These caps are designed to store the electrical charge versus gasoline in a tank. Overtime and use the chemistry inside these caps Deteriorates Or dries out overtime inherently. When this event occurs the apple far is ability to store sufficient clean power reserves so the performance starts to decline. Like a gas tank that has holes in it and the energy is pouring out versus keeping better mileage range. So as a vehicle the mileage range would reduce with holes in the fuel tank so does the audio performance on a power amplifier. I hope this makes sense.. |
| I bought pair of 803D for 3K from a doctor in Austin,Tx. His 802D3 sound was not much more than the others. Your thoughts Hello, oh boy… that’s a loaded questions?? The reason I say this because lots of factors involved and unknowns?? Also the Bowers 800 series are not the easiest or most efficiently spec’s db rating.. so they are a bit fussy to optimize but when you do they will reward.. assuming the crossover, drivers and tweeters are operating as they should.. so this this assumption the following will help flush out the obvious mis matches or issues bottlenecking the speakers from ripping out tunes..
A. What are the others?? So we can baseline comparison.
B. What amplifier model are you using? Are you sure the caps are not degrading the performance?
c. Preamp & source of music?
4. A little info on interconnects, power cords, speaker cables and conditions?
These answers will help us better understand the situation to give you an honest and well thought out opinion on the likley performance bottlenecks. |
