Klipsch La Scala AL5

These are 1 yr old (received Aug-2021) Klipsch La Scala AL5 speakers purchased from Kazoo Audio in Kalamazoo, MI with ~200 hrs of burn in time. The speakers are in perfect working condition with minor scratches, explained below.

After moving into a house with a very large and finished basement in 2020 I simultaneously had the opportunity to also move into the world of large floor-standing speakers and the AL5s were my first foray in that direction, having been enamored with their horn-loaded sound in the mid-range and vintage appearance.

I then made the mistake of auditioning some Wilsons in an Ann Arbor, MI store and was blown away by what I heard and purchased a pair of Yvettes, making those my primary set-up and the AL5s the secondary set-up you see in the pics. The AL5s have subsequently gotten little love as I've been on a never-ending journey to perfect the Wilson set-up.

In addition, I better understand my taste preferences and find myself wanting to fully move away from horns by purchasing a pair of Gershman Grande Avant Garde floor-standers; as such, I need to clear the AL5s out to make room and would like to fund their purchase with the sale of the AL5s, so time for them to go.

Despite basically being brand new and functioning flawlessly, I've rated them a 6 out of 10 for the various scratches they've incurred over the past year. Hopefully the pictures detail these well.

On the top of the right channel speaker you will find the worst of the scratches - ironically, these scratches are the result of me writing my room dimensions down on a piece of paper on top of the speaker to use for room treatment consulting purposes. Really stupid me. The remaining scratches have just randomly appeared over the course of one year of ownership. I mean that too - really random. And, ex my doodling, these scratches are probably my biggest complaint about the AL5s other than the lack of low-end below 50 hz - the finish and wood is highly, highly susceptible to scratching at but the press of a light fingernail, which is disappointing to say the least.

Anyhow, the AL5s are PHENOMENAL in the mid-range, especially vocals and with overall imaging of those vocals. And while most have read or heard about this quality, until you spend time with them it is hard to appreciate how much they excel in this area, regardless of how quietly or loudly they are played. By far, it has been the availability of vocals and the spread and reach of their imaging that I have enjoyed while playing these over the past year. Not only will I miss it, I often find myself craving it as I listen to the Yvettes. The mid-range vocals sparkle like no other on the AL5s!
