Don't be shy: I'm entertaining any reasonable offer!
Parting with some of my favorites in my cartridge collection. I have too many to listen to, so it's time for someone else to enjoy.
I've long believed - well before the famous MM thread on the Audiogon Forum - that one didn't need to spend a fortune to get great sound, and the glory days of MM and MI cartridges provided me with many examples. This one is really a giant killer: a Shure V15 Mk iii, which many consider to be arguably the best overall sound of the V15 series (I certainly do). This one has the incredible Jico SAS/S (sapphire cantilever and the SAS diamond - a variation on the micro-ridge, shaped a bit like a tiny philips head tip squeezed in one direction - and a new cocobolo wood body by Stanley. This is an awesome combination. It still has the rich warmth the Shures were known for, but is faster, with extended bass and highs without a loss of that magical midrange, and it tracks everything thrown at it. Soundstage is precise and wide. I don't know how much of the performance is due to the Jico, and how much to replacing the Shure plastic body with the Stanley cocobolo, but all I can say is that this is hard to part with. Luckily i have 2. With the proper tonearm ( I use it on an SME 3009 Series 2 non-improved), performance is staggering. This one has decades on the motor, but the SAS/S has only about 10 hours on it, just barely broken in. The stylus alone cost $349. With the cost of the body, I'm basically throwing in the Shure motor for free...;) No box for the Shure, but I'll send on the original box and paperwork for the Jico.
Frequency response: 20 - 25k Hz
Output voltage: 3.5 mV
Tracking force: .75 - 1.5 grams
Compliance: High, but number unknown: use a tonearm on the light side...SME 3009 is magical.
Mass (including Stanley body and screws): 8.7 grams
I've always taken great care of my equipment, and I pack them properly and safely when I sell them. I'm cool with USPS, UPS or FedEx, and will ship out the same day that Paypal gives me notice of moolah in the kitty....
Questions for the seller |
---|
Would I be able to remove the cocobolo and try it with the original body? Yes indeed. The original body and stylus guard too will be included. The wood body is pressure-fit, so it is easy to remove (after removing the stylus, of course!). The original body is plastic and was glued, so it isn’t quite so straightforward to do A-B comparisons if you glue it back! Without the glue, the original body would be a plastic resonance chamber…;). The Stanley cocobolo body is a huge upgrade in eliminating the smearing of fine detail that the SAS/S stylus extracts… |
