For your consideration is the highly regarded Placette Passive Linestage. This 125-step remote volume control uses banks of expensive discrete Vishay S-102 metal-foil resistors to achieve its famous transparency.
Reviewers have noted the Placette is capable of “delivering absolute minimal alteration of the input signal. Speed, detail, and transparency are outstanding” (Roger McQuaig, TNT Canada). In Stereophile, Brian Damkroger found “images were simply suspended in space or the original ambience.” The Audiophile Voice’s Dan Pond found the sound “spatially large with low distortion, superb clarity, and much low-level resolution and transparency”. 10 Audio stated “This is the first component in my experience that has so little identifiable character as to be, in the most exact meaning of the word, transparent.”
I purchased this unit from Placette Audio in 2012. Guy Hammel, the owner of Placette, modified this unit with a home theatre bypass. I have had no issues running my SACD player and DAC, plus my phono preamp using a low output moving coil into the other two inputs. There are two RCA outputs per channel for biamping or subwoofers.
I am including a second remote control that I purchased from Placette Audio as a spare.
EMT preferred. Buyer is responsible for any applicable duties and taxes if in the USA.
