DCS DAC no remote
From reviews
The dCS produced bass that was powerful, deep, taut, and well textured. Its overall attack was equally fast and certain, as in the bass, but it didn't sound hard or etched. Instead, image contours were ideally carved in space, producing, with hi-rez files, dramatically solid, three-dimensional images that appeared out of the pitch black one normally associates only with good analog playback.
The Debussy's top-to-bottom transient performance was equally satisfying: fast, yet delicate enough to avoid hard edges and harshness. Macrodynamics were seemingly unlimited; more noticeable were microdynamics, and the Debussy's ability to reveal small dynamic shifts that further extended instrumental decay than what I'd become accustomed to from familiar recordings—even CDs. Not surprisingly, then, the Debussy's rhythmic drive and ability to induce musical involvement were sensational, particularly with hi-rez recordings. While it may not have the Scarlatti's graceful sophistication and delicacy, the Debussy more than made up for it in exuberance and musical vibrancy.
--------------------------------
Single-box elegance at the cutting edge of standalone DAC design. Debussy, when launched, was the entry point to the world of dCS and designed to be the hub of a digital playback system.
Debussy combines the legendary dCS Ring DAC and our award winning asynchronous USB technology in one box to deliver a DAC that extracts exceptional performance from any digital source.
------------------------------------------
As in all dCS DACs, the Debussy uses its proprietary Ring DAC, ultimately oversampling all incoming data to 2.822 or 3.07MHz with a 5-bit depth. When touring the dCS factory, I learned all the DACs share a common “motherboard.” The basic chipset and layout are the same, with more functionality as you go up the range. Such a strategy keeps manufacturing streamlined and designs future-proofed. All updates can be executed via software, further ensuring the unit’s longevity.
The dCS Debussy equates to a triumph, bringing world- class digital performance to a price point previously out of most audiophiles’ reach. But don’t listen to the Master Clock unless you are ready to press the “buy now” button. Once you’ve had such insight, it’s tough to go back to listening without it. If one could exchange their CD and LP collection for high-quality, high-resolution files, this would be an easy choice to make. But it’s not that easy. Yet. For those that already have a substantial collection of 16/44 digital files, whether ripped on a hard drive or from CD, the Deb makes it easy to not only enjoy them like never before, but to obtain the necessary amount of air and warmth that you enjoy from analog sources. The experience allows you to listen for hours without fatigue. And I can’t give a source component a higher recommendation than that.
