Heathkit EA3(Modified)--Black Gates

For your consideration are my modified Heathkit EA3's.

Here's their story:
​​​​​Experimenting with mono, I found an EA3(EL84 based Heathkit integrated amp) at an estate sale, and had a lot of fun experimenting with it. At the end of the day, my ears preferred the sonics of two channel, and so the EA3 was put on the shelf.

Some time passed and I got the idea to get another EA3, and strip the preamp guts out of both, and make them into one-off 14 wpc mono blocks, since I love that EL84 tube sound.

Success!

From the shop:

1.  The EL-84's were fine  2.  Replaced the 6AN8 Tubes   3.  Replaced the power supply caps with dual BlackGate power caps   4.  Replaced all four output caps with Rel Theta Caps 5.  Replace output resistors   6.  Clean all controls and pots.

Sonically, they were a success. Everything I hoped for.  But, cosmetically, they had a face not even a mother could love.

Hence, I got a little artsy, and transformed them into the art deco glory pieces they are today. I will attempt to provide before and after pics if I can find any old pics of their original state after the mods were performed.

Additionally, new power switches were added to the rear, and upgraded captive power cords, too.

They sound great.  They look cool.  Definite conversation pieces.
