Bel Canto Design DAC-3

Up for sale is my Bel Canto Dac 3 e.one series digital to analog converter.

I am the second owner.  According to the first owner:

“This unit contains a DAC-3.7 24/192 digital board upgrade. The older 16/48 USB input board was changed to a ST (AT&T) optical input.  A factory board, factory installed $400 upgrade.”

I have no documentation or receipts to back up the original owners claim, just his word, who happens to be a fellow Audiogoner with %100 positive feedback, as do I.

The optical input was installed in the original chassis, where you can partially see the USB stencil on the rear panel (see picture).

The unit also has variable volume adjust, which you could use as a stand-alone preamp if you wish.  The DAC is flawless, save for one small blemish on the top-rear portion. It looks gorgeous and is built like a tank, weighing in at 14 pounds.  This is an older unit, but with the updates you’d be hard pressed to hear a difference compared to the newer counterpart at $2,800.  I only used the Spdif 2 input from my cd transport, but all of the other input lights for the other channels light up. For around $55 you can purchase a USB to Spdif connector in order to input from your computer.  For the price of an entry level DAC in today’s current market, you are purchasing a higher end level of build quality from a company known for producing stellar audio components.

INPUTS: AES 110ohm XLR, SPDIF 75ohm BNC and RCA, TOSLINK, Optical.

OUTPUTS: RCA unbalanced and XLR balanced.

MAXIMUM OUTPUT: for RCA- 2.25Vrms, XLR- 4.5Vrms.
