This pair listed is in Neat Acoustics' beautiful walnut finish w/ black feet. Note also that this is a current model. "This elegant new design uses the configuration first exploited in the prestige Neat Ultimatum XL6 loudspeaker. The top section is sealed off from the lower, and incorporates two sealed chambers, operating as a two-way infinite baffle loudspeaker. A 50mm ribbon-type tweeter and 134mm bass/midrange unit are both mounted on a specially profiled sub-baffle, attached to the main cabinet via a de-coupling polyethylene membrane."

Upper section:
"The tweeter is a ribbon type which delivers tremendous dynamic expression without compression. The bass/mid drive unit has also been used in the award-winning Neat Motive and Iota Alpha models. It has a treated paper cone with a flared profile. The carefully-judged crossover network allows superb integration of these units."

Lower Section:
"The lower, ported, section of the EKSTRA houses not one, but two of the 134mm bass drive units. One unit is located on the bottom panel, facing the floor, whilst the second is located internally, directly above the first, in a sealed iso-baric arrangement, handling only low frequencies and acting as an integral subwoofer system. The low-Q port is specially tuned to enable close to wall placement of the speaker in most rooms."

"Iso-baric loading allows deep, well controlled LF performance from a compact enclosure. This system takes great skill to execute correctly, and the very successful implementation in several of our other models means that we can approach this new design with confidence.
The EKSTRA is very slim, at 6.7 in. wide, and 43.3 in. tall. The footprint is exceptionally small, so it can be positioned in very tight situations if required."

Neat Acoustics has been hand crafting outstanding loudspeakers since 1989 in the Northeast of England. (Trivia: For those who may not know, NEAT actually stands for "Northeast Audio Traders") Their initial widely acclaimed success came with the original Neat Petite, Neat’s fantastic interpretation of the well known BBC LS3/5A studio monitor. More recently, many may know of Neat’s unique, ground breaking Iota Series of loudspeakers, a store favorite. Perhaps Neat Acoustics’ best known feature is their commitment to pace, rhythm, attack and timing (PRAT), along with an uncanny ability to recreate correct musical timbre. Further, while they are rated with a moderate sensitivity rating, Neat speakers yield a benign (flat) impedance making them easy to drive with modest powered tube or solid state gear. The sound of Ekstra is open with a large image, deep base, and palpable 3D sound stage.
