Product Outline and Concept
Having in mind that “analogs too have a lot more to go,” we released the world’s first 3 unit structure phono equalizer, EA-1000, in 2012 for all analog disc lovers and last year we released the phono equalizer EA-2000 that compiles all 6 structures of Phasemation’s phono amplifiers eliminating any small inexactness.
Now this year, after 9 years, we will release the new standard, EA-1200, which is the successor of EA-1000 which inherited the rich tones of the new dimension of EA-2000.
Main features:
A tube type LCR non-feedback phono amplifier of independent Lch & Rch composed of 3 units.
- MC step-up transformer that is specially tuned based on the transformer containing T-1000 is built inside.
- Newly designed vacuum tube type LCR equalizer abiding to high sound quality and the independent usefulness of the left and right.
- Worked more on the countermeasures towards noises and more clean and powerful left/right (in common) power supply based on the EA-1000.
The EQ amplifier with the left and right divided independently and supported by a powerful power supply, the played sound with its high S/N ratio and high resolution delivers the highest degree of realism of the performer with an overwhelming sense of liveliness and good visibility of the performer on stage.
Details
1. Non-feedback LCR equalizer due to tube type unit amplifiers composed with two monaural blocks
- A transformer equivalent to T-1000 is built in and all three inputs can be switched to MC or MM for balanced inputs. In addition, we adopted the BAL/UNBAL switch for countermeasures towards noises when an unbalanced connection is made on the MC.
- The non-feedback SRPP-type amplifying circuit of ECC-803S which has an excellent transient response and an outstanding reputation for sound quality plus the low impedance output cathode follower due to ECC-802S are together adopted as a unit amplifier. You can enjoy the large dynamic range and its glossy and lively sound quality that is possible only in vacuum tubes.
- The LCR type is adopted for the equalizing circuit. Power loss and inductive noise in the signal line can be minimized and sound quality deterioration can be suppressed by adopting the LCR type which can reduce the impedance of the signal system. The information obtained is outputted from the last stage without any losses by adopting large coils, high quality film capacitors, and so forth.
- Three types of equalizer curve switches are installed. The RIAA for stereo, Mono 1 (for use with DECCA label and so forth) and Mono 2 (for use with Columbia label and so forth) can be selected. Mono1 and Mono2 are for monaural use only. This enables a higher fidelity playback for both the DECCA and Columbia labels.
2. Power supply with direct heat rectifier tubes 5U4G composed of a monaural block using a high-capacity R-core transformer.
For the rectification circuit, an R-core power transformer with excessive capacity is used and a rich rectification circuit is used for each independent left and right power supplies by using two choke coils and rectifier tubes (5U4G) which in principle do not generate switching noises. Furthermore, the power supply transformer and choke coils are magnetically shielded to provide a cleaner and stronger power to the amplifier. In addition, a 3-terminal regulator DC ignition system is used for the heater power supply of the amplifier achieving a high S/N ratio.
3. Ensuring the quality
A 10mm-thick aluminum slant front panel pursuing the elegant design of EA-2000, a 1.6mm-thick copper-plated steel plate chassis base, and a 2mm-thick aluminum cover with a magnetic shield are used to ensure rigidity and reduce magnetic distortion.
The foot is equipped with heavy metal insulators to isolate external vibrations.
The RCA terminals are made by Flutech, renowned for their high quality and high sound quality, and the XLR terminals are plated by Neutrik to aim for total balance in the sound quality.

Product Outline and Concept
A balanced receiving of the cartridge output has been acknowledged by many people who seek high sound quality. The T-500 which was released in 2014 was made possible to have a balanced receiving and has a high reputation but there was still more room for improvements due to the results of continued research. We sought for even more sound quality and overwhelming improvements of liveliness and panoramic stage and developed the greatest step-up transformer which we can think of. The coil winding structure was reexamined and pursued a high sound quality and in addition, we succeeded to absolutely rid the left/right sound quality interference by structuring a monaural unit box.
We will release Phasemation's entire unit, the high sound quality MC step-up transformer T-2000.
Main feature
Balanced Transmission Supported Input Portion
When generating power through a cartridge coil, a balance operation is conducted essentially. Transmitting this signal with an unbalanced connection results in not only the merit of balanced type is damaged or lost, but also external noises directly affects sound quality.
The basis of wiring at the time of connecting by using a balanced phono cable is shown in Fig. 1. The signal is transmitted from the cartridge coil to the transformer coil through the push-pull balancing circuit and the shield earth covers them. Therefore, the negative effect caused by external noises can be blocked. In addition, the full balanced connection (No.2 pin hot) is structured for the cartridge side by connecting the center of primary coil of transformer to the minus point (signal GND) of the secondary coil.
A general structure of connecting a step-up transformer for MC cartridge by using of an unbalanced phono cable is shown in Fig. 2. At the unbalanced connection composed of the signal wire and external shield, the shield side is exposed to the external noises. Therefore, it results in not only to be easily effected by the noises, but the signal wire is also invaded by the negative effects.
Newly developed high performance core materials are adopted.
0.2mm thick permalloy materials which were used previously were reexamined and developed the new "extremely thin super malloy core material." In combination with the large core shape, it reached to have a superior characteristic of very low frequency linearity and high efficiency boosts (low loss) which brings about a detailed atmospheric expression.
The adoption of the best coil winding specifications
The transformer coil wiring specifications were reexamined and adopted the best fitting value designing specifications taking into consideration the matching of the transformers and impedance values of the cartridges that are in use. In combination with the new coil winding structure, this brings about a transformer of high resolution and wide ranging of sounds. In addition, due to the adoption of high pure copper wire onto the secondary coil winding, it contributes to have a full sound having a better longevity throughout all ranges.
Plus, we indulged to have it be hand made in order to reach the best sound quality. Due to this, it brought about a superior frequency response and phase characteristic to a wide range and decreased the phase distortion within the hearing range and actualized an even clearer static acoustic image.
External induction hums and unnecessary vibration removed
To handle the external induction hums, the chassis base that is a solid steel sheet plated with copper and the case cover with an induction hum shield are used. In addition, it is a double layer structure due to the magnetic shield material which is placed near the transformer. The rising transformer is made of high damping rubber and floats from the main unit and prevents the external vibration from spreading.
As with the control amp CA-1000, a 20mm thick slant aluminum panel is used for the front panel. Below the unit box, a wood base is added and by mixing it with other materials, the unnecessary vibration is effectively removed and brings about a playing sound with a good S/N ratio.
High Quality Parts Used
Rhodium plated terminals of FURUTECH products are known for high quality and high sound quality are used for the I/O input terminals.
In addition, TA0C high carbon cast iron insulators are adopted for the feet and contributes to the improvement of the sound resolution.
