Designed Specifically for 78 RPM Records

The Planar 78 uses a high-quality 24-volt low-noise synchronous motor and Rega’s Advanced EBLT drive belt to maintain stable, accurate 78 rpm playback. Its phenolic-resin platter is designed to provide a flywheel effect, helping preserve timing, rhythm, and pitch stability.

Rather than adding unnecessary switching, electronics, or multiple speeds, Rega keeps the design focused on one job: extracting the most music possible from 78 rpm records.

RB220 Precision Tonearm

The hand-assembled RB220 tonearm uses Rega’s low-friction bearing design and a rigid one-piece arm tube. Its accurate tracking and low-resonance construction allow the cartridge to follow the groove cleanly while preserving detail and reducing unwanted coloration.

The factory-matched RB78 cartridge is designed for mono 78 rpm records and provides the proper stylus profile for their wider grooves. This is an important distinction—standard LP cartridges are not designed for correct playback of traditional shellac records.
