Classic Records reissue (Atlantic) 8LP boxed set of 45 RPM single sided pressings in box with original gatefold jacket. Each LP in own jacket then sleeved archivally. Mastered by Bernie Grundman.
This long out-of-print set is hands down one of the greatest festival recordings ever. The 3 day festival occurred September 1972 at Otis Spann Memorial Field in Ann Arbor, MI and included Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf with Hubert Sumlin, Otis Rush, Magic Sam, Freddie King, Luther Allison, Hound Dog Taylor, Koko Taylor with Willie Dixon, Bobby Blue Bland, Dr. John, Jr. Walker and The All Stars, Johnny Shines, Bonnie Raitt, Sippie Wallace and Sun Ra and His Solar Myth. A must have!
Unfortunately there is a disruptive warp and production flaw at the very beginning of Side 4 that may cause some mistracking for at most a minute - and, hence the rating. Just to be warned, but what a fantastic album.
This record from my private collection has been played 5 or fewer times on a VPI TNT-6 turntable with an Air Tight PC-1 cartridge. Before playing, records are cleaned on a VPI 16.5 using L’Art du Son cleaning fluid. Records are stored vertically in a Music Direct LP case in a pet-free, smoke-free, child-free environment. LPs have been kept and are shipped in archival anti-static sleeves with record jackets in archival quality outer sleeves. Purchased factory sealed and always handled very carefully, the vinyl is essentially in the condition when first opened.
