Questions for the seller
But if you hook the Melco up USB out to a dac, it then can become a media player/ streamer, I thought. I am inquiring because that's what I would use it for, to stream my files/ Tidal to my dac.
I know this is confusing and it took me time to wrap my head around all this. No, the Melco is an NAS, it is NOT a streamer. The only data stream that can come from the Melco is via Ethernet. You need at least an inexpensive streamer such as the Bluesound Node 2. The USBs on the Melco are strictly for importing and backing up--they do not have the capability of "streaming" data to a DAC.
How old is this unit?
I've had it about a year, more or less. Can't recall exactly to the day. Only reason I am selling it is that I upgraded to an Aurender streamer with built in storage so the Melco became redundant.
Thanks, but I'm confused the Melco has built in storage (4tb), so what other improvements did the aurender bring? Also isn't the Melco able to stream Tidal with the Mconnect app?
The Melco is a NAS with the additional features of allowing to directly rip what ever file type you wish via an attached USB 2 or 3 DVD/CD spinner. It will also go and get the associated meta data for the rip. You can also directly load purchased Hirez files to it. It is not a streamer. I don't have any familiarity with the app you mentioned; I used a dedicated streamer in conjunction. There is only Ethernet in/out for signal and USB for ripping/backup.
