I purchased this pair of brand new Dynaudio Excite X14A ACTIVE speakers two months ago to build a desktop audio system. I paid full price for these speakers and had good intentions to build an “ultimate” desktop system that didn't take up a lot of room.

However, I never got around to purchasing the DAC and volume control that I needed and these speakers are still sitting here brand new and unused. These (in my opinion) are the ultimate desktop speaker due to their small size and incredible sound quality. There isn’t anything else on the market that I know of with this sound and build quality in this small size and with high-quality amplification and DSP features in this price range. In fact, StereoPlay just gave these speakers their #1 place in the 2016 Golden Ear competition! Obviously, their readers too found out the same as I did - these are the best active desktop speakers around in their price range.

This pair has a beautiful walnut satin finished veneer that look absolutely stunning in person. Dynaudio has one of the best veneer jobs I’ve seen yet in a speaker system.

The front grills are removable and attach via magnets so no holes are visible if you want to use them without grills.

SUPERB MUSICAL QUALITY

WITH BUILT IN DUAL AMPS & DSP

The musical quality will be immediately apparent upon first listen: Clear and open, yet perfectly balanced and refined, with an impressively deep and tight bass performance for a loudspeaker this size. Sound staging and imaging between the two speakers is excellent thanks to the meticulous DSP fine-tuning and optimization of the digital amplification system (50W amplification per speaker with two amps per cabinet).

Dynaudio also makes a new wireless speaker with similar features as this pair but in my experience, wireless never sounds as good as a wired speaker. These Excite X14A sound much better than Dyn’s new wireless XEO speakers.

3 EQUALIZATION SWITCHES

The Excite X14A features three equalization switches that allow you to fine-tune the sonic performance even further, for example when placing the speaker near a wall, corner, or free standing.

HIGH PASS FILTER AVAILBLE

The bass, midrange and treble can each be individually adjusted in three levels. The high-pass filter (60 or 80 Hz) allows one to optionally combine the Excite X14A with a subwoofer. With the high pass filter engaged, lower bass frequencies will be filtered out to be covered by a dedicated sub such as the Dynaudio Sub 250 II.

RCA & XLR ANALOGUE INPUTS

The rear panel of the Excite X14A features two analogue inputs to choose from, one paor of RCA chassis jacks and one pair of XLR chassis jacks. The input sensitivity can be individually adjusted in three levels. So you can use a single ended DAC or even a balanced DAC with these speakers. An Auralic Vega? Metrum HEX or PAVANE? Chord 2Qute? Virtually any DAC with or without volume control single ended or balanced. That makes these speakers really flexible for connecting to most any front end system.

REALLY COOL ON/OFF SWITCHING

The Excite X14A can be set to either switch-on from standby after sensing a music signal (Auto On, Auto Off), or may be left permanently switched-on.

Theses speakers measure 6.7”W x 11.1”D x 10.3”H each

They have two 50W Class AB amps per speaker (one for tweeter & one for driver)

Frequency Response is 45Hz to 23kHz

(they play lower than my PMC TwoTwo.5 speakers that cost twice what these do)
