For Moving Coil audiophiles- this is an excellent preamp that can be configured to match several mc outputs and impedances. In addition to the selector switch on the back, a multiple resistor pack and instructions are included for swapping a pair on the circuit board to fine tune the impedance to precisely match the MC cartridge. This capability should appeal to serious audiophiles who tend to be perfectionists! I know about this. The preamp does not have a remote control, but can be set to bypass the tone controls with a front-panel switch for the purest signal. The volume can then be left at a constant level for output to a master preamp or receiver if remote volume control is desired.
It is the most advanced of the three CA5 series, the CA5A mark 2. The CA-5 was released in 1985 at $750, the CA-5 mk2 in 1988 at $880 and the CA-5a mk2 in 1988 at $1150 list.
